Cowboys | Tony Romo to wear back brace

Sun, 28 Aug 2016 08:57:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will be wearing a back brace during his recovery from the compression fracture in his vertebra. Head coach Jason Garrett is not giving a timetable for Romo's return.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is not expected to return to the lineup until at least midseason, so owners should monitor his progress over the next few weeks. Owners could consider selecting Romo in the late rounds of drafts and stashing him on their bench, but he probably will go undrafted in many leagues. Dak Prescott should be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys for the time being and can be a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo likely out until midseason

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 14:40:41 -0700

Updating a previous story, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) is expected to miss six to 10 weeks with a compression fracture of his L1 vertebra in his back. Per sources, Romo is not expected to need surgery. Head coach Jason Garrett refused to rule him out for the team's season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 11 and did not confirm whether or not this injury is related to the transverse process injury the oft-injured quarterback suffered in 2014.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott with an eye on keeping Romo upright, and he'll be asked to carry even more of the offense on his shoulders now because Dallas will turn to fellow rookie Dak Prescott, who has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the preseason. Romo should go undrafted in virtually all leagues that don't have an IR spot, while Prescott can be drafted as a high-upside (but low-end) QB2. Elliott should be the offensive focus even more now than he was expected to be and is a high-end RB1.

Cowboys | Tony Romo may need epidural

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 12:13:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will likely need an epidural in order to play this season. The broken bone in his back is an injury that may linger.

Fantasy Tip: Romo is easily in backup fantasy quarterback territory with the injury, and he may even be considered undraftable. Dak Prescott has looked like a natural in the preseason and will be thrown to the wolves immediately. He's not in QB1 territory, but he's not the worst backup and should be claimed off waivers this week, especially by those who drafted Romo.

Cowboys | Tony Romo has broken bone in back

Sat, 27 Aug 2016 11:49:15 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) suffered a fractured vertebra in his back against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 25. He is expected to miss six to 10 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Here we go again. Romo is no stranger to back issues, and he couldn't make it out of the preseason before encountering another one. Dak Prescott will likely take over the reins at quarterback. He has impressed so far this season and seems capable of starting even as a rookie. He's not a starting caliber fantasy quarterback, but he can be worth a start in a good matchup and should be a cheaper option in daily contests.

Cowboys | Tony Romo may need MRI

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 10:36:20 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Tony Romo (back) could have an MRI on his back, and a decision is expected Friday, Aug. 26. The injury appears minor for now.

Fantasy Tip: This is an example of how big of a risk Romo is in fantasy football. He's a QB2 with minimal upside because of the injury danger.

Cowboys | Tony Romo out for game

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 19:59:59 -0700

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo will not return against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 25, due to a coach's decision. He left after three plays with a tight back.

Fantasy Tip: After an injury is scare, it is no surprise Dallas decided to hold Romo out. He could put up QB1 numbers if healthy, but drafting him as your starter is a recipe for disaster.

Cowboys | Tony Romo tweaks back

Thu, 25 Aug 2016 19:21:38 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) exited against the Seattle Seahawks Thursday, Aug. 25, and was holding his back. He tried to return to the field, but he was called back by coaches.

Fantasy Tip: Although it sounds like Romo dodged a serious injury, it is a sobering reminder of how fragile he is at this stage in his career. He is a potential QB1 when healthy, but don't count on him being healthy all season.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott makes most of chance

Sat, 13 Aug 2016 20:08:22 -0700

Dallas Cowboys rookie QB Dak Prescott made the start in the preseason opener Saturday, Aug. 13, against the Los Angeles Rams with QB Tony Romo resting. Prescott sizzled, completing 10 of his 12 pass attempts for 139 yards and two touchdowns, including one to Dez Bryant. His two incompletions were dropped passes, too.

Fantasy Tip: Prescott might have a future in Big D, as he certainly looked to have a good grasp of the offense. He obviously will not play as long as Romo is in Dallas, but with the veteran's injury history Prescott might see the field sooner rather than later once the games begin to count.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott learning from Tony Romo

Thu, 04 Aug 2016 18:37:57 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott said he been learning from QB Tony Romo, and Romo said he has been teaching Elliott all the "little intricate stuff."

Fantasy Tip: Elliott is set for a big role in Dallas' backfield, and he should be off the board no later than the second round.

Cowboys | Tony Romo has stiff back

Tue, 02 Aug 2016 07:30:33 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) has been experiencing back stiffness, according to quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson.

Fantasy Tip: Romo's fragile collarbone is the main concern, and it has diminished him to a QB2 in fantasy with high risk.
