Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs CB Dexter McCleon will practice with the first team offense at training camp next week. He will be given the first shot at replacing CB Eric Warfield while Warfield sits out the first four games of the season serving a suspension. CB Benny Sapp would be next in a line that also includes CB Ashley Ambrose.

Jonathan Rand, of KCChiefs.com, reports Kansas City Chiefs CB Ashley Ambrose is a candidate to replace CB Eric Warfield (suspension), who has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the regular season after receiving a DWI charge in September 2004. As reported, CB Dexter McCleon is also a candidate to replace Warfield.

Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports the signing of CB Ashley Ambrose Friday, July 1, probably rules out the chance the Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to sign free agent CB Ty Law (Patriots). Asked late today whether the Ambrose deal meant Law was out of the picture, head coach Dick Vermeil said, "I can't answer that. I don't know. I would imagine, but I don't know. I think you're always smart enough not to write it off (and) then you just keep doing your due diligence." Vermeil said the Chiefs signed Ambrose for security. It is believed that Ambrose agreed to a deal near the veteran minimum of $765,000.

Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star, reports free agent CB Ashley Ambrose (Saints) is being pursued by three NFL teams, according to agent Kennard McGuire. He said the three teams have shown "a tremendous amount of interest," but Ambrose is patient and wants to find the right fit. As noted earlier, the Chiefs are one of those teams.
