NFL | Man who founded illegitimate hedge fun commits suicide

Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports Kirk Wright, who founded an illegitimate hedge fun and was convicted Wednesday, May 21, by a federal jury of bilking $150 million from thousands of clients, hung himself Saturday, May 24, in the Union City, Ga., jail where he was awaiting sentencing of up to 710 years in prison. Former Denver Broncos FS Steve Atwater, RB Terrell Davis and WR Rod Smith were some of Wright's clients. Atwater invested $2.8 million of his own money in Wright's hedge fun, called International Management Associates. Atwater helped raise an additional $15 million by signing up Davis and Smith.

Colts | Vinatieri sets postseason scoring record

John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports Indianapolis Colts PK Adam Vinatieri's 49 points scored in the postseason set an NFL record, topping the 48 points scored by former Denver Broncos RB Terrell Davis in 1997.

Broncos | Former running back up for Hall of Fame nomination

The Associated Press reports former Denver Broncos RB Terrell Davis has been nominated as one of three newly eligible players to make the list of 25 semifinalists for Pro Football's Hall of Fame class of 2007. Davis rushed for 2,008 yards and was awarded the NFL MVP award in 1998, as well as winning the Super Bowl MVP award in 1997. Davis also holds the Broncos rushing record with 7,607 rushing yards.

NFL | T. Davis sues insurance company

The Associated Press reports former NFL RB Terrell Davis sued Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Co. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in Superior Court for breach of contract after claiming they refused to defend him in an earlier lawsuit related to an Emmy Awards after-party incident. It is the second lawsuit Davis has brought over from a scuffle between him and bouncers at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel during an Emmy after-party. The previous suit accused the operator of the hotel's bar of racial discrimination, assault and battery. Davis asked Liberty Mutual to provide him with an attorney and defend him against a cross-complaint, but the insurance company refused.

Broncos | Current and former players sue hedge fund company

The Rocky Mountain News reports Denver Broncos WR Rod Smith, former RB Terrell Davis, former S Steve Atwater, former CB Ray Crockett, and other former and current players have filed a law suit against an Atlanta based hedge fund company. The group is accusing the managers of International Management Associates LLC of theft, forgery, and fraud. The investors claim they put close to $15 million into funds run by the company, its affiliates and principal Kirk Wright.

NFL | Mariucci to provide Super Bowl pregame commentary

The Associated Press reports former Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci will provide analysis for the NFL Network's first-ever Super Bowl pregame show. The show runs from noon to 5:30 p.m. ET Sunday, Feb. 5. Mariucci will be joined by Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis and the network's Terrell Davis, Rod Woodson, Rich Eisen and Sterling Sharpe.

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos PK Jason Elam's nine-point night Saturday, Jan. 14, allowed him to become the Broncos' all-time leading postseason scorer with 79 points, passing RB Terrell Davis (74 points).

The Associated Press reports former Denver Broncos RB Terrell Davis is suing the operator of a bar in the famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, saying he was roughed up last month at an Emmy Awards after-show party. Davis said the trouble started when the Tropicana Bar's owner, Amanda Scheer-Demme, told a friend of his to stop talking with a white waitress. According to Davis, the waitress stepped between him and Scheer-Demme and put her hand on his chest to push him aside, then made a derogatory remark when he asked her to move her hand. Davis says he suffered a bruised neck and damage to a surgically repaired hip when he was accosted by two bouncers. His lawsuit seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
