Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu (calf) said he believes the calf injury that forced him to miss more than half of the 2012 season could have been avoided. "There are times when people fall on my knee, and those type of freak accidents that can't be avoided. Last year was the first injury of my career that could've been avoided," Polamalu said. He has been dealing with calf issues since 2009, but found a physical therapist to break up the scar tissue in the calf.

Pittsburgh Steelers SS Troy Polamalu has a history of blowing off the voluntary portion of spring drills to train with his guru, Marv Marinovich, in the Los Angeles area. Last season, Polamalu went through most of the spring practice with his teammates - and then missed nine games with injuries. It's uncertain if Polamalu will attend organized team activities (OTAs), which begin Tuesday, May 21.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Antonio Brown said the team's locker room was fractured this past season. Brown felt players were more concerned about individual goals than team success. "It was definitely different - guys weren't really together," Brown said. SS Troy Polamalu was among the veterans who spoke out and tried to explain to the team that selfish behavior wouldn't be tolerated. "That's when you know you've got issues and you've got to come together as a team. Because the reality of a team game is everyone on the same page, committed to the same thing, dedicated for one goal, and that's winning," Brown said.

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau believes SS Troy Polamalu still has a lot of football left him, even though the safety is now 31 and has been hampered by injuries recently. "He has a lot of tremendous football talent still in him," LeBeau said. "I know Troy will do everything he can to get himself physically ready to compete for a 16-game season. And we'll have to wait and see (if he can)."
