The team did not give Asomugha any guaranteed money in his deal, which means he has to compete for a roster spot.

San Francisco 49ers CB Nnamdi Asomugha's one-year deal with the team includes no guaranteed money, according to a source with knowledge of the contract. The contract has a base value of $1.35 million, and he can earn $425,000 in "likely to be earned incentives" tied to playing time and the 49ers making the postseason. Asomugha also is eligible for $1.225 million in "not likely to be earned incentives" tied to playing time, qualifying for the Pro Bowl, being named to the All-Pro team, interceptions, and qualifying for the playoffs.

San Francisco 49ers CB Nnamdi Asomugha said he likes the 49ers' defensive scheme. He had trouble with Philadelphia Eagles' scheme the last two seasons. The Eagles' scheme didn't have the same man-to-man principles that he played in Oakland.

Free-agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha (Eagles) met with the New Orleans Saints Sunday, March 17, according to a source. Asomugha didn't visit with head coach Sean Payton or general manager Mickey Loomis, however, as they were already at the NFL owners meetings, and he likely spent much of his visit with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. There has been no indication of how far talks went with Asomugha during the visit.
