J. Michael Moore, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos LB Terry Pierce is adjusting to his new role as an outside linebacker after playing his first two seasons as a middle linebacker. "It's going smooth," Pierce said. "I'm just playing every possible position I can. There's less to worry about (on the outside). You don't have to do all the checks and everything, you can just play. Playing the Mike (middle linebacker) you have to be really in to the game mentally, knowing that everybody else is doing, where as when you're outside, you just do it."

Broncos | Pierce's Time to Shine, or not

Sat, 09 Jul 2005 05:07:45 -0700

Lee Rasizer, of the Rocky Mountain News, reports this may be the year Denver Broncos LB Terry Pierce gets to make a difference. Circumstances have worked against Pierce since the Broncos selected him with their second-round pick in the 2003 draft. Other player's signings and injuries have gotten in the way of him getting playing time and his weight, at times, has been an issue for coaches. There also seem to be road blocks to Pierce seeing playing time this season, especially with less talk now about the Broncos using a 3-4 alignment. Pierce was drafted to play middle linebacker. Defensive coordinator Larry Coyer believes it's time Pierce makes an impact in some fashion. The coach said Pierce can start doing so on special teams and by being a "multiple-position guy," which Pierce already has done by working at outside linebacker last season. Pierce has appeared on defense in eight games the past two years and remains LB Al Wilson's primary backup entering training camp later this month.

Williams (ankle), who practiced at weak-side linebacker with the starting defense during the first two days of minicamp, was demoted to second-string Friday, June 11. "You slip down and somebody will pass you up. That's how competitive it is. And he slipped down a day or two," Broncos defensive coordinator Larry Coyer said. "He had a little 'ouchie' in his ankle. But this is pro football. And if (the trainer) says you're ready to go, you're ready to go. You can't be gimping around.
