Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports the Carolina Panthers have released OG/C Bruce Nelson (hip) after he went to team officials noting he was not happy with his recovery from a hip injury. He is expected to retire. The former second-round choice in the 2002 NFL Draft has not been able to contribute due to a series of injury problems.

Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said he couldn't rule out the possibility that OG Bruce Nelson (hip) could return from chronic hip problems. The team is monitoring his condition before they make their final round of cuts before training camp. Agent Neil Cornrich said he had no new information regarding Nelson.

Carolina Panthers head coach John Fox said things are not looking good for OL Bruce Nelson (hip) who is trying to make his way back from hip surgery. Fox indicated his recovery is not going all that well and Nelson's playing fate is in the hands of the team's medical staff.

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers OL Bruce Nelson (hip) had another surgery related to a degenerative hip condition in recent days. He has already had two previous hip surgeries. HC John Fox said the most recent operation will set back Nelson's rehabilitation at least six weeks. It is now expected Nelson will miss most of the team's June workouts. Nelson could end up retiring if the the hip doesn't rebound by training camp.

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports there is growing speculation that the career of Carolina Panthers G Bruce Nelson (hip) could be over after undergoing surgery on both hips. Several agents and personnel officials said Nelson has a degenerative condition in his hips. Panthers officials denied his career is over and said Nelson continues to rehabilitate.

Panthers.com reports Carolina Panthers OG Bruce Nelson (hip), who is on the physically-unable-to-perform list, isn't expected to begin practicing in the near future, according to head coach John Fox. It is unlikely that Nelson will return to the active roster this season.
