The Associated Press reports the Arizona Cardinals are calling all centers after losing starter Al Johnson (knee) and backup Scott Peters (knee) back-to-back. The team hopes to have Johnson back for the start of the season but Peters is out for the year after being placed on Injured Reserve. With the two injured, OL Lyle Sendlein is the only other player with experience at center on roster and he is just in his second season.

According to Jean-Jacques Taylor, of the Dallas Morning News, reporting for the Sporting News, reports the Dallas Cowboys could opt to re-sign C Al Johnson, a backup who shared the position with C Andre Gurode in 2005. Gurode is a power player, who does a good job against the massive nose tackles and defensive tackles who proliferate the NFL, but unless they give him a deal that averages between $4.5 million and $5.5 million per year, they will not be able to re-sign him.

Johnson won the job for the 2005 season and started all 16 games with Gurode serving as his backup. The team will try to make it a fair competition, but offensive line coach Tony Sparano admits the team might be better with Johnson starting at center. Sparano said, "Andre has played guard before and Al has not played that position. So the best situation, at the end of the day, would be if Al (starts at center) and we have Andre at the game (as a backup) like we did last year. But whether or not Andre ends up being the best player out of this remains to be seen."
