Cowboys | Jason Witten will not lose playing time

Fri, 21 Feb 2014 13:44:40 -0800

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said TE Jason Witten will not lose playing time to TE Gavin Escobar in 2014. "Well, I don't know about that," Garrett said. "Witt's a great football player and has been for a long time, a Pro Bowler again last year. In my opinion, our opinion, the best tight end in football and has been for decades. Witt's certainly going to be a big part of what we do with our offensive football team. But that doesn't mean Gavin can't be more involved."

Cowboys | Jason Witten holding out hope for Tony Romo

Thu, 26 Dec 2013 15:38:11 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten isn't ready to rule QB Tony Romo (back) out for Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles. "I wouldn't count him out until he's out," Witten said. "There's no question. That wouldn't surprise me, but I do think obviously this is different situation (it) seems like with the back and however that plays out. But you've got to prepare with Kyle (Orton) and go as if that's the case and then see how it plays out." Romo has not practiced so far this week.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys have stated that Romo probably won't need to practice in order to play in Week 17, but we think that's doubtful. You should already have planned to be without Romo this weekend. If he miraculously plays, deal with that decision later.

Cowboys | Jason Witten returns to prominent role

Tue, 05 Nov 2013 11:52:57 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten was a big part of the offense in the team's Week 9 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, catching eight passes for 102 yards and a touchdown after totaling nine catches for 90 yards in the previous three games. The team made sure to work on ways to get Witten more involved the week heading into the matchup with the Vikes. Minnesota played Cover 2 and QB Tony Romo went 8-for-10 when looking Witten's way.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the disappointing weeks prior, Witten remains a strong TE1 option.

Cowboys | Miles Austin ruled out

Fri, 27 Sep 2013 12:41:13 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Miles Austin (hamstring) did not participated in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and has been ruled out for the team's Week 4 game.

Fantasy Tip: With Austin ruled out, it likely means that Dwayne Harris could get more looks, if he gets on to the field as he is dealing with his own injury issues. If he canít go, Terrance Williams may get more looks, but Jason Witten may be the biggest beneficiary of this news.

Cowboys | Jason Witten hopes to be more involved in red zone

Fri, 23 Aug 2013 12:54:14 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he hopes to be more involved in the red zone offense this season after only getting one target in the red zone last season. "Offensively we just haven't done a good enough job putting points on the board and I'm apart of that. Hopefully I'll get more touches and opportunities and that's something we worked on this offseason. I felt like in training camp we saw some results of that and I'm excited to see it carry over into the regular season," Witten said.

Fantasy Tip: Witten has been one of the most productive tight ends over the last few seasons and should still be a solid No. 1 fantasy tight end, but his value would increase if receives more targets in the red zone.

He said he has no problems helping second-round pick TE Gavin Escobar adjust. "There's no ego there for me," Witten said. "It's all about winning. That's part of being a leader and a captain - is to help other guys play at a high level. There's no hard feelings from that standpoint."

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he believes QB Tony Romo's work ethic has been great even though owner/general manager Jerry Jones said Romo will be spending more time at the team's facility and being more involved in the offense. "I've always felt like Tony was very involved in the process of the plays and our scheme, how we attacked," Witten said. "I think in any organization where you have an elite quarterback like that, you want him to feel comfortable. I think that's something we've always tried to do, and it sounds like we're going to continue to do that."

Cowboys | Jason Witten scores

Sun, 16 Dec 2012 21:24:30 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had five catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: The yardage total was Witten's worst since Week 3, but it was his first visit to the end zone since Week 4, so fantasy owners will take it. He and the Cowboys passing offense face a very favorable matchup in Week 16 against the New Orleans Saints.

Cowboys | Big plays for Jason Witten

Mon, 03 Dec 2012 08:08:50 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten had a season-high 18 yards per catch in Week 13, and only one of his six catches went for less than 10 yards. The return of RB DeMarco Murray (foot) to the lineup enabled for more big plays in the passing game. "I think being able to run the ball and not being one dimensional, they're not bailing out of there and that's not something we got to really in the last four or five ballgames," Witten said. "That was big. Obviously I feel good about that."

Cowboys | Jerry Jones doesn't think team is getting stale

Tue, 30 Oct 2012 11:23:26 -0700

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones does not think the Cowboys are getting stale, or boring to watch. "Do you think Romo's exciting to watch? Of course he is," Jones said. "Is Jason Witten worth watching and coming to see? Maybe in the top five of all the players we've had, you can go to the person as well as the player. Certainly Miles Austin has proven that he can make exciting plays. He's been dealing with hamstring (injuries), but he can. Apart from that, we probably have Ė and I'm going to pull this one out of my head here Ė but we probably had at least 50 percent of our players that weren't on our roster two years ago on the field the other day. So stale would not be the word for it."

I had some opportunities to make some catches that I'm accustomed and expected to make, and I didn't do it. But you stay the course," Witten said. "You've done it so many times. I knew there was going to be some opportunities to make some plays. I was glad to get back on track so to speak."

Cowboys | Jason Witten injury update

Sat, 08 Sep 2012 06:02:24 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten (spleen) did not appear to suffer any setbacks after returning to action in Week 1. "It sounds like he came out of the game OK," head coach Jason Garrett said. "He seemed good after the game." Witten played 53 of the team's 68 offensive snaps in Week 1. Garrett said he didn't want to overuse Witten, who had two catches for 10 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Witten's health should continue to be monitored; however, it appears his role will expand in the coming weeks. If Kevin Ogletree can build on his Week 1 performance, it may also open up the field more for Witten to receive more targets.
