Cowboys | Jason Witten top receiver in Week 5

Mon, 09 Oct 2017 04:41:18 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught eight of his 10 targeted passes for 61 yards in a 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: It was a better performance than last week, when Witten was held to one catch. Still, QB Dak Prescott has so many targets on the field you have to wonder how Witten will do. He remains a decent TE1 option moving forward, but keep an eye on his matchups.

Cowboys | Jason Witten held to one grab

Sun, 01 Oct 2017 17:23:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted just one grab for nine yards on two targets in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Fantasy Tip: It was a very disappointing game for Witten, as fantasy owners expected big things against a leaky Rams pass defense. What's worse, fantasy owners had to endure seeing James Hanna celebrating a 28-yard touchdown instead of Witten on the highlights. Witten will look to get on track in Week 5 against the Packers.

Cowboys | Jason Witten is NFL's most-targeted TE

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 21:45:02 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten leads all players at his position with 22 targets through the first two weeks, with the next-closest being Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz, having logged 18 targets. Witten has turned all those throws his way into 17 catches for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: Without question, the future Hall-of-Fame tight end is one of the most underrated in the league, having not even missed a game since his rookie year -- way back in 2003! -- and he's accumulated more than 60 catches in each of his 13 seasons since. He's currently on pace to rack up 176 targets, which would be a career high, and while he probably won't come close to that, Witten is proving that he can still serve as a capable TE1 in any fantasy league.

Cowboys | Jason Witten shines in lopsided loss

Sun, 17 Sep 2017 20:45:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted game highs with 10 catches and 97 yards in Week 2 at Denver and he scored a touchdown with 13 targets.

Fantasy Tip: Dak Prescott was looking Witten's way early and often, as the tight end benefited from a lopsided score in the second half with a heavy workload and no runs. He is off to a great start for fantasy owners through two games. He'll try to keep it rolling in Week 3 at Arizona on Monday Night Football.

Cowboys | Jason Witten sets franchise record

Sun, 10 Sep 2017 22:05:05 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten posted seven receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Giants. He became the franchise's all-time leader in receiving yardage (11,094), passing Michael Irvin.

Fantasy Tip: Witten started off strong, as he and Dak Prescott had a good thing going with the Giants mostly taking Dez Bryant out of the plan. He'll look to carry over the momentum into Week 2 in Denver.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant, Jason Witten sitting Wednesday

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 12:43:35 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant and TE Jason Witten will not participate in practice Wednesday, July 26. Head coach Jason Garrett said he wants the veteran players to have a regular schedule during training camp that will not wear them out.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant and Witten probably will receive days off during the regular season as well because the team wants them to stay healthy. Both players will have big roles in the Cowboys passing game in 2017. Bryant should be considered a No. 1 receiver in all fantasy leagues, while Witten probably should be a low-end No. 1 or No. 2 tight end.

Cowboys | Jason Witten signs extension

Tue, 28 Mar 2017 08:17:58 -0700

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten signed a four-year extension through 2021 Tuesday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: Witten had a 69-673-3 season last year and turns 35 in May. He's still a solid PPR receiver, but his yardage and scoring numbers leave a bit to be desired. He's a midrange TE1 with little upside.

Cowboys | No extension talks for Jason Witten

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 16:59:22 -0800

The Dallas Cowboys are in no rush to talk to TE Jason Witten about a contract extension as he enters the final season of his five-year, $37 million deal, according to team executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Witten said earlier this month he wasn't anticipating an extension and it shouldn't come as a surprise since he turns 35 in May. While he hasn't stretched the seam for years and incapable of creating big plays at this point of his career, Witten gives the Cowboys a reliable option who hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2003. In fantasy, he's a high-end TE2 with slightly more appeal in PPR leagues.
