Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns C Lennie Friedman will likely start Week 1 at center over C Hank Fraley. Friedman has received most of the work with the No. 1 offense during practice this week. The coaching staff also believes he is more familiar with the blocking since he has had more time with the team. Head coach Romeo Crennel said the starter would be a game-time decision.

Jeff Walcott, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage commented during his press conference Friday, Sept. 8, that ideally the team would like to have recently acquired C Hank Fraley start Week 1, as opposed to C Lennie Friedman. "Ideally, we would like to see Fraley start and see Lennie be the swing center-guard," Savage said. "He probably has more mileage as a swing backup than a full-fledged starter." Head coach Romeo Crennel has yet to name a starter.

Mike McLain, of the Tribune Chronicle, reports the Cleveland Browns had to waive OL Lennie Friedman Monday, Aug. 28, to tweak his contract. Once the change was made, Freidman was re-signed and was on the practice field the last two days. "My contract was a little different than it was in Chicago," Friedman said. "They had to terminate the first contract and have the other one take hold. I think I was not with the Browns for about five minutes." Friedman should receive plenty of time coming off the bench in relief of OC Ross Tucker in the preseason finale Thursday, Aug. 31, against the Chicago Bears. Browns' head coach Romeo Crennel has said that Friedman and Tucker are competing for the starting job.

"That's what we're playing like," tackle Chris Samuels said. "Dirtbags just a bunch of nasty guys up front." The projected starters include OT Jon Jansen, OT Chris Samuels, OG Derrick Dockery, OG Randy Thomas and C Lennie Friedman. "There's a mentality that the coaches brought: 'This is how we're going to do things. This is how it should be done. Forget anything you had been taught the last couple of years. This is how it's going to be done,' " said Jansen.

The Washington Times reports OL Lennie Friedman started in place of C Larry Moore (foot) in Sunday's, Nov. 9, game against the Seattle Seahawks, his first start of the season. "Lennie did a terrific job," tackle Jon Jansen said. "He came in, and we didn't miss a beat. He did a great job coming in, calling plays and really getting us in the right spot all the time." Friedman will likely start again in this week's game against the Carolina Panthers, as Moore was told he could be out a couple of weeks.

Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier said OL Lennie Friedman will be ready to play in Sunday's, Oct. 19, game against the Buffalo Bills if OL Derrick Dockery continues to make mistakes. "There's a chance we could play Lennie some this week," Spurrier said. "If Dockery is struggling, we'll put him in there. . . . Dockery is a good player. Most of the time he was pretty good the other day. A few times, he wasn't. He needs to hang in there and play harder and smarter and keep competing. That's all we can ask him to do, is compete every snap."
