Patriots | May not pick up option on Brandon Lloyd

Wed, 27 Feb 2013 22:32:47 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandon Lloyd doesn't appear to be part of the team's plans for 2013. According to a source, he isn't projected on the team's depth chart even though he signed a three-year, $12 million deal a year ago. Lloyd, who caught 74 passes for 911 yards and four touchdowns last season, may not fit due to his personality, which a teammate described as "weird." Lloyd's inability to find a consistent niche in the offense, his personality and his aversion of physical contact could have the Patriots looking elsewhere. He has a $3 million roster bonus, but it isn't clear when it must be picked up. Should the Patriots opt not to exercise it, they'd still be hit with $2 million against the salary cap, which could be spread over two years, but the team would save $2.5 million.

Patriots | Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd on the way out?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013 04:42:11 -0800

There is growing speculation that New England Patriots impending free-agent WR Wes Welker and WR Brandon Lloyd may not return in 2013. With TEs Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez on the roster, the offense would only have to change slightly without Welker. Hernandez would serve as the slot receiver, with Gronkowski working the middle of the field, in such a scenario. The Patriots may also not want to pay Lloyd a $3 million option he is due.

Patriots | Re-signing Wes Welker important for multiple reasons

Wed, 06 Feb 2013 09:43:20 -0800

The New England Patriots figure to not only re-sign impending free-agent WR Wes Welker because of his importance to the offense, but also because the team has only two useful wide receivers under contract for next year in WRs Brandon Lloyd and Matt Slater.
