Tue, 04 Jun 2013 18:00:15 -0700 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson caught 112 passes for 1,598 yards in 2012, which ended up being 58.1 percent of all Texans pass targets, a league high percentage. Head coach Gary Kubiak does not intend on scaling back the percentage and spreading it around in 2013. "It's going to happen again," Kubiak said. Fantasy Tip: Johnson hauled in 69 percent of his targets for receptions, which was a tremendous catch rate. With what Kubiak is saying during the offseason, fantasy owners will once again want Johnson as a top wide receiver, as nothing appears to be changing anytime soon with how the team uses their biggest receiving weapon.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 17:59:33 -0700 The Houston Texans want to have more reliable targets outside of WR Andre Johnson in the receiving game. Last season, WR Lestar Jean hauled in 50 percent of his targets for catches, while WR DeVier Posey (Achilles') racked up catches on 43 percent of his targets. WR Keshawn Martin managed to catch just 36 percent of his targets. Fantasy Tip: Someone will need to step up and replace Kevin Walter, who has since moved on to the Tennessee Titans. He was good for a catch rate of 60 percent of his targets. Jean appears to be the most likely candidate to succeed, as he can be a downfield threat and he had a high catch ratio. Martin also showed glimpses of brilliance, but is still rather raw. Posey is making his way back from a torn Achilles' suffered in January, and his timetable remains uncertain. Right now, only Jean and Martin are worth late-round fliers on Draft Day.
Tue, 28 May 2013 11:45:18 -0700 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he has been around the NFL long enough to know when injuries are serious. He does not think RB Arian Foster's (calf) injury is serious. Fantasy Tip: As we wait for more information on Foster, this could be seen as encouraging. Johnson is right in saying he should know when an injury is serious. Still, wait for something from the team about the severity of the issue before adjusting your draft board.
Fri, 10 May 2013 11:15:26 -0700 Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak praised WR DeAndre Hopkins after his first practice with the team. "Impressed. Very impressed," Kubiak said. "Very competitive, that's number one." Fantasy Tip: Hopkins is expected to see playing time early on opposite of Andre Johnson, and as a result should get good matchups. He is a rookie you will need to monitor as training camp and preseason games get underway.
Fri, 26 Apr 2013 10:53:58 -0700 Houston Texans WR DeVier Posey (knee), who tore his left Achilles' in the playoffs last year, will open the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Fantasy Tip: This shouldn't come as a surprise that Posey will miss at least six weeks of the 2013 season, which is why the Texans were predicted to take a receiver with their first-round pick in the draft. They did, taking DeAndre Hopkins, and they'll need him to pick up the slack opposite Andre Johnson immediately. Lestar Jean could also factor in, but Hopkins has much more upside and has often been compared to a young Anquan Boldin.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 09:36:37 -0700 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he would like to play five more seasons before his career is over.
Sat, 20 Apr 2013 09:32:31 -0700 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson said he hopes the team selects a wide receiver during the 2013 NFL Draft because the offense needs more weapons. Johnson said he would work closely with any rookie receiver the team beings in.
Thu, 14 Mar 2013 22:07:24 -0700 Updating an ongoing story, free-agent FS Ed Reed (Ravens) went out to dinner with Houston Texans team officials, WR Andre Johnson, and OL Chris Myers Thursday, March 14. Johnson actively recruited Reed to potentially join the Texans.
Thu, 07 Feb 2013 06:30:30 -0800 The Houston Texans must look to add a No. 2 receiving option in the offseason who can help take pressure off of WR Andre Johnson. There was a 71-catch difference between the number of balls Johnson caught (112) and the second-best wide receiver caught (WR Kevin Walter, 41) this past season.
Thu, 31 Jan 2013 10:46:54 -0800 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson has triggered a $3.3 million escalator in his contract and is now scheduled to earn a $9.5 million base salary in 2013.
