Cardinals | Carson Palmer sees ticking clock

Fri, 22 May 2015 06:34:27 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) understands that at age 35, with two knee reconstructions under his belt, time is ticking, according to Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians. Palmer has been rehabbing diligently, exceeding expectations six months following surgery, and has a sense of urgency, Arians said.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is a low-end QB1 in fantasy leagues. He has the tools around, in a pass-first system, with an improved offensive line. Staying healthy will all but ensure he ranks within the top 15 of fantasy passers in the upcoming year. Target Palmer, followed by a competent backup, once the elite names come off the board in the Rounds 8-12 area of fantasy drafts.

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:50:14 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) was held out of 11-on-11 drills Tuesday, May 19, during organized team activities. Palmer did, however, participate in 7-on-7 drills.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is still supposedly a couple months away from being at 100%. At this point in his career he's past the stage of being a QB1 and should only be drafted as a backup and/or bye-week replacement.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer does drills

Tue, 05 May 2015 05:31:23 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) participated in on-field drills with the team Monday, May 4. He handed the ball off to the running backs and threw short, intermediate and deep throws to his receivers. While the action wasn't close to replicating game-like conditions, Palmer said joining the rest of the team on the field was a big mental boost after missing the last eight games of the 2014 season.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is probably a solid QB2 at this stage of his career coming off an ACL tear.

Cardinals | Big season for Larry Fitzgerald?

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 19:11:49 -0700

Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald and QB Carson Palmer were finally on the same page last season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Fitzgerald was on pace to reach 1,000 yards last season when Palmer went down with a knee injury, and if both players stay healthy in 2015, Fitzgerald could have a solid season. However, don't count on Fitzgerald being more than a No. 3 receiver for your fantasy team.

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 09:14:50 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer has had his contract restructured, giving the Cardinals an extra $7.1 million in salary cap space.

Fantasy Tip: If Palmer can stay healthy in 2015, and with the return of WR Larry Fitzgerald, he can serve as a nice QB2, but shouldn't be considered a starting fantasy quarterback at this point in his career.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer says he'll be ready

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 14:05:18 -0800

Updating a previous report, Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) said he has been running for two or three weeks and throwing five times a week. He is "pretty close" to being able to participate in a normal workout, and he said he moved past his post-surgery "funk" when he was able to sweat during workouts. "I'm going to be ready to rock 'n' roll by the season," Palmer said. "Definitely going to be ready by that, definitely going to be ready for camp. And shooting to be getting reps in our mandatory (minicamp) and hopefully some of our OTA practices."

Fantasy Tip: As long as Palmer doesn't overdo it this offseason, we have confidence that he'll be ready to go for the start of the 2015 season. At age 35, Palmer can still be an effective quarterback in the NFL, when healthy. The Cardinals are intent on adding a running back to compete with Andre Ellington, too. Palmer will still be able to deliver QB1 production in the right matchups, but he'll likely be best off as your backup fantasy QB.

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 12:57:33 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer said he agreed to restructure his contract this offseason in order to create some salary cap space for the team.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer may be ready for camp

Thu, 05 Mar 2015 12:56:36 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and expects to be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Carson probably will not do much during offseason workouts, but it appears he could be ready for the start of camp. Palmer played very well before suffering the injury and will have weapons to work with on offense. Palmer should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season who could be a low-end No. 1 quarterback against certain matchups.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer might restructure

Wed, 25 Feb 2015 21:57:03 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer might restructure his contract to ease his cap number of $14.5 million for 2015, according to a source. As long as the team does not increase his salary they can redo the deal he just signed during the 2014 season. According to reports, a $9.5 million roster bonus might be converted to a signing bonus.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer will be the starter in Arizona if he can stay healthy. He had a nightmare season in 2014 with injuries, but he can still be very solid for fantasy owners with Arizona's strong receiving corps and the good hands of running backs out of the backfield.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer ahead of schedule

Mon, 16 Feb 2015 11:45:44 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation process, according to general manager Steve Keim. Keim said Palmer is doing some running, looks fantastic and is more energetic than ever. Palmer tore his anterior cruciate ligament in 2014 for the second time in his career.

Fantasy Tip: A healthy Carson Palmer is still a No. 2 fantasy quarterback; plus, we still don't know if Larry Fitzgerald will be returning. Draft Palmer as your backup or bye-week replacement for 2015.

Tue, 20 Jan 2015 15:18:38 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) is ahead of schedule and could return for organized team activities this offseason, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Sun, 18 Jan 2015 07:07:29 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) said he feels great and that he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Palmer started jogging last week and is lifting heavy weights with his legs. Palmer is confident that he will be with the team next season.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer should be ready for the start of the 2015 season and was playing well before he suffered the injury. Palmer may not be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues next season but he could be a strong backup for owners.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer expected to return in 2015

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 11:25:27 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) has no further damage in his left knee other than a torn anterior cruciate ligament, and he's expected to be ready for the 2015 season, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: You can drop Palmer in single-year formats now that he's officially out for the year. Drew Stanton will take over as the starter. He's comfortable in the system and led the team to several wins earlier this year. Consider Stanton a matchup play at FantasyScore for the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer can be dropped in single-year leagues because of this news. Drew Stanton will take over as the starting quarterback and could be picked up by owners desperate for quarterbacks. Owners on FantasyScore probably should look at Stanton as a matchup play most weeks.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer undergoing tests

Mon, 10 Nov 2014 09:48:26 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (knee) is undergoing more tests on his injured left knee Monday, Nov. 10. The team fears that Palmer suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in Week 10, which is the same injury he had in 2006. Head coach Bruce Arians said the team may know more about the severity of the injury Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: This doesn't look good for Palmer. If it is indeed an ACL tear, Palmer will be done for the year and may struggle to be ready for the start of the 2015 season. Drew Stanton has played well in Palmer's absence this year, but he's more of a game manager, and he'll struggle to put up consistent points for a fantasy squad.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer agreed to a three-year extension worth $50 million Friday, Nov. 7. He was set to be a free agent after this season.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer unbeaten as starter

Sun, 02 Nov 2014 14:16:11 -0800

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for 249 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys. Palmer improved to 5-0 as a starter this season.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has at least 249 yards passing and two or more touchdown strikes in each of his five outings this season. When healthy, he is a solid quarterback to use in FantasyScore, especially since his salary isn't quite at the same level as the elite options at his position.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer close to 100%

Tue, 21 Oct 2014 18:59:00 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) threw at team headquarters Tuesday, Oct. 21, and is "real close" to 100% percent, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has already looked good since returning from a nerve issue in his shoulder, throwing for a combined 503 yards and four touchdowns in two starts. He will take up 14.6% of the cap ($7,300) at FantasyScore in Week 8, and he should post another solid stat line against a Philadelphia defense ranked 23rd against the pass. For fantasy owners that don't want to pay top dollar for a quarterback, Palmer should make a nice mid-level alternative.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer tossed two touchdowns last week in his first start since returning from a nerve injury in his shoulder, and with a matchup against the winless Oakland Raiders on tap in Week 7, he is worth considering at FantasyScore. He will take up 14.6% of the cap ($7,300).

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 19:17:25 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant for practice Wednesday, Oct. 15, due to his right shoulder ailment.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer apparently made it through his Week 6 return last week with no setbacks, but check back Friday just to make sure he is still on target to play again in Week 7. At just $7,300 or 14.6 percent of the cap in FantasyScore, he is a decent mid-level option.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Oct. 15. Head coach Bruce Arians said Palmer's arm is still not 100 percent but is more than serviceable.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer needs practice reps

Tue, 14 Oct 2014 09:04:51 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said his right shoulder felt great Monday, Oct. 13, but he needs as many repetitions in practice this week as possible heading into Week 7 against the Oakland Raiders. He won't throw Wednesday, Oct. 15, but head coach Bruce Arians said the plan is for him to do "hopefully everything" in practice. Palmer is unsure how long it'll take to regain full strength in his arm. "It's going to take a while. It's going to take at least a week of throwing, I would think. It's kind of what I'm expecting to really get it back. It just needs to get back in shape. It's just out of shape. It's like sitting on the couch after training camp -- you have a knee issue or high ankle sprain, you just get out of shape, you get out of the football shape. My arm's out of throwing shape, and that'll come back," Palmer said.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer has a fine matchup against the Raiders this week. He'll cost you $7,300 at FantasyScore in Week 7. Consider using him if you want to save a little cash at the quarterback position.

Cardinals | Cards not concerned about Carson Palmer

Mon, 13 Oct 2014 17:00:54 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) said the pain subsided enough for him to get a good night's rest after the team's Week 6 win Sunday, Oct. 12, and head coach Bruce Arians said Palmer's nerve in his right shoulder didn't regress after playing against the Washington Redskins. "I was concerned until I saw him today," Arians said. "And then now he feels great, so we should just get better and better and just get stronger." Arians is hopeful that Palmer will take part in all practices this week.

Fantasy Tip: As long as Palmer's nerve doesn't have any setbacks, he'll remain a nice stream option at quarterback moving forward, based on matchups. In Week 7, he has another nice matchup against the Oakland Raiders.

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 12:03:15 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is active for the team's Week 6 game.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer may be the starting quarterback for the team, but his role is not known at this point. Owners should probably avoid using Palmer this week even if he starts, because he could be limited by his shoulder.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer likely to play

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 07:33:11 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) is likely to play Sunday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer ($7,100; 14.2% of your cap) isn't a real wise buy, considering rust is a distinct possibility. There are better options on FantasyScore in his price range.

Cardinals | Cardinals QB a game-time decision?

Fri, 10 Oct 2014 13:47:09 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was throwing at around 80 percent and some decent velocity Friday, Oct. 10, but head coach Bruce Arians said all three quarterbacks could be active in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. A decision on who will start might not come until around game time, and it'll depend on health. Both Palmer and QB Drew Stanton (concussion) were limited Friday in practice and are questionable for Sunday, Oct. 12. Stanton has yet to take or pass his concussion test.

Fantasy Tip: It's best to avoid the Cardinals quarterback situation entirely at FantasyScore. If Logan Thomas ends up starting, that hurts all of the Arizona receivers.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer limited

Thu, 09 Oct 2014 14:53:25 -0700

Cardinals | Limited practice for Carson Palmer

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:05:08 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) was listed as having limited participation in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Drew Stanton, who has filled in for Palmer the past three games, also was limited, so rookie Logan Thomas received first-team snaps in practice. Neither of the trio is particularly attractive in FantasyScore in Week 6.

Arizona Cardinals QBs Carson Palmer (shoulder) and Drew Stanton (concussion) will both be limited in practice Wednesday, Oct. 8. Stanton isn't fully cleared from his concussion but can do some throwing.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer and Stanton seem very questionable for Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. Neither would be smart plays at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer seeing improvement

Wed, 08 Oct 2014 11:49:34 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) had "pretty significant" improvement in his throwing shoulder Monday, Oct. 6. However, it's still undetermined if Palmer can play in Week 6 against the Washington Redskins. Palmer will visit Dr. Greg Roskopf again Friday, Oct. 10, for another evaluation. A palpation technique was used to stimulate the sensory receptors in his shoulder, and the communication between the muscles and the nervous system has ignited the nerve. Palmer threw 40 to 50 passes Tuesday, Oct. 7, and he has yet to suffer a setback. "It's a very delicate line," Roskopf said. "If he exceeds his tolerance level at the time, then it almost puts it back to sleep. It shuts it down again."

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to say if Palmer will play this weekend, and with an afternoon game on the slate, it's not wise to invest $7,100 (14.2% of cap) on him at FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer to practice?

Tue, 07 Oct 2014 17:56:27 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) could practice as soon as Thursday, Oct. 9, if his shoulder responds well after throwing Tuesday, Oct. 7, according to head coach Bruce Arians.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer's status for Week 6 depends on whether or not he can practice in full in the comings day, but if he is able to suit up, he could make a solid play at FantasyScore. His $7,100 salary (14.2% of cap) ranks 16th among quarterbacks, and he should put up big numbers against a Washington defense that has surrendered an average of 36.3 points per game during a three-game skid.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer needs full practice

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 13:24:04 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) will need to go through a full practice this week before returning to action in Week 6, according to head coach Bruce Arians. Palmer will cut down on individual drills so that he can focus on team work.

Fantasy Tip: Palmer is believed to be improving, but until we see him in a full practice this week, we shouldn't consider starting him in daily leagues against the Washington Redskins. Even if Palmer does start, it might be wise to look elsewhere.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer making progress?

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:35:57 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) remained in Denver overnight Sunday, Oct. 5, to receive treatment on his right shoulder. He made around 20 throws Sunday before the game and felt that he made progress.

Fantasy Tip: We won't have an idea of whether Palmer can return in Week 6 to face the Washington Redskins until later this week. As of now, it looks iffy, at best, that Palmer will return.

Cardinals | Drew Stanton has concussion

Mon, 06 Oct 2014 09:30:16 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (concussion) suffered a concussion in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos. Stanton will go through the league's concussion protocol this week. The team may have to turn to QB Logan Thomas in Week 6 with QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) suffering from a nerve injury in his right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Stanton's chances of returning to face the Washington Redskins aren't good, and the timetable on Palmer's return is unknown. If Thomas has to start in Week 6, you'll need to expect less from all of Arizona's receiving options.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) met with Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning's nerve specialist and is optimistic that the problem has been fixed. Palmer expects to be able to return in Week 6 or Week 7 at the latest.

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder) did not participate in practice Friday, Oct. 3, and has been ruled out for Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Drew Stanton will start in place of Palmer. There is no definite timetable for Palmer, so owners will need to keep him on the bench until he is able to return.

Cardinals | Carson Palmer won't need surgery

Fri, 03 Oct 2014 09:24:43 -0700

Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (shoulder), who was diagnosed with an axillary nerve contusion in his right shoulder, will not need surgery, since his shoulder is structurally sound. "So, we're just going to continue the same rehab process and continue working at it and trying at it and this thing will come back and I'll be ready to go," Palmer said. Head coach Bruce Arians said Palmer has only thrown at a distance of 30 to 40 yards so far. It doesn't look like Palmer will be healthy enough to be active in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos as the backup to QB Drew Stanton.

Fantasy Tip: Basically, there is no timetable for Palmer to return to the starting job. He's on a week-to-week basis. Without Palmer behind center again this weekend against the Broncos, Stanton will lead the way, and he could be a sleeper QB option at FantasyScore if the Broncos go up big early and force the Cards to throw often.
