Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (arm, foot) had surgery Wednesday, Oct. 12, on his left foot to remove some loose cartilage. He said he might as well have it done now while he is on Injured Reserve for a broken left arm.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Byron Leftwich (arm) underwent surgery to repair the broken arm he suffered during the third preseason game. Leftwich said it will take him two to three months to recovery from the injury.

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed QB Byron Leftwich (arm) on the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Sept. 2, and also released LBs Baraka Atkins, Mario Harvey, Chris McCoy and Mortty Ivy, DL Corbin Bryant, DBs Brett Greenwood, Macho Harris, Donovan Warren and DaMon Cromartie-Smith, RBs James X. Johnson and John Clay, OLs Colin Miller, Kyle Jolly, John Malecki, Trevis Turner and Keith Williams, WRs Armand Robinson, Wes Lyons and Tyler Grisham, TE Jamie McCoy and PK Swayze Waters.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Charlie Batch is the likely candidate to be the team's backup quarterback following the injury to QB Byron Leftwich (arm). Head coach Mike Tomlin said Monday, Aug. 29, that a final determination on the new backup will not be made until after the final preseason game. Tomlin gave QB Ben Roethlisberger a day off practice Monday, Aug. 29, and split the repetitions between Batch and QB Dennis Dixon.
