Baylor QB Robert Griffin III said he will have to beat out Washington Redskins QB Rex Grossman for the starting job if he is selected by the team with the No. 2 overall selection in the NFL Draft. "Rex Grossman is the quarterback in Washington right now, and I've got to go beat him out. I've got to prove to those guys that I'm there to work and I will, it's who I am. I'll be the first one in, last one out, and it won't be a cliché with me," Griffin said.

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said he likes that QB Rex Grossman is willing to make downfield throws. However, Shanahan added, Grossman tries too hard at times to make something happen downfield. "He feels pressure to make a lot of those plays and get it going. When that happens, he does make bad decisions," Shanahan said. A stronger supporting cast next season, however, would alleviate that problem, according to Shanahan.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday, Dec. 21, that QB Rex Grossman needs to cut down on his turnovers, but he also feels the talent surrounding him has been an issue. "Rex can cut down on those turnovers," Shanahan said. "Even though you're saying he should have now by his ninth year, I think Rex could get better with some better (talent) around him. I think he can get better. I still think he can make better decisions and I'm not just going to say, 'Hey, no matter what he's going to always throw picks.'"

"A lot of our pass concepts are timed up with your drop - one-hitch throws or no-hitch throws. You can always count on him to be in the right spot to where you could throw with a blindfold on because he's going to be in that area. He's big. He's fast. He's fast enough to run every route."
