QB Brad Johnson heads to camp as the No. 1 guy, but QBs Shaun King and Rob Johnson will battle hard for the No. 2 slot. Gruden also has not ruled out adding another live arm for training camp. "We might pick up another quarterback," he conceded. "Tom Tupa will work into our rotation. He won't take a lot of reps, but he will work. He'll get familiar with the nomenclature of our system, ball handling, things of that nature. With the absence of Joe Hamilton, there is a chance that we pick up another quarterback. But we are looking into that right now."

Rich Cimini reports for the NY Daily News the New York Jets may indeed be looking to add another punter before next Monday's game. Current P Tom Tupa had a bad game last Sunday. According to sources, the punters the Jets are focusing on are Daniel Pope, Chad Stanley and Ken Walter. Pope, who punted last season for the Bengals, worked out Tuesday for the Jets. Stanley and Walter, formerly of the 49ers and Panthers, respectively will audition today for the team. Tommy Parks, who punted week one for the Jets, is not being considered. GM Terry Bradway indicated Tuesday that "there's a chance we might" sign a punter by the end of the week.

The Bergen Record reports New York Jets coach Herman Edwards expects P Tom Tupa to rebound this week after a poor performance on Sunday. "What we have to realize is that Tom has not punted for six weeks in a live situation," Edwards said, referring to Tupa being hobbled by a hip strain. The coach had the same feeling about return man Chad Morton, who sprained his right ankle in the second half. Morton and S Victor Green (thigh bruise) underwent MRIs and Edwards said both "should be OK."

His status for next week's game is uncertain. The Jets would have to use Aaron Glenn or Laveranues Coles if Morton can’t play. Another worry is P Tom Tupa, who suffered through a nightmarish season debut. Tupa, still hampered by a strained hip flexor, averaged only 35.4 yards on nine punts.

Moreland will be out three to four weeks. LB James Darling suffered a sprain knee and may miss a little time. T Ryan Young (knee) and RB Reggie White (knee) are banged up but are expected to practice this week. P Tom Tupa is also expected to make his return this week after recovering from hernia surgery.
