Phillips was accused of choking his wife after she questioned him about another woman. Judge Walter Heinrich ordered Phillips to not have any contact with his wife, Adrianne. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted, according to Heinrich.

He remains in a Hillsborough County (Fla.) jail and is being held without bond.

Head coach Raheem Morris said the team is concerned about the injury. "Jermaine Phillips is the guy we're real concerned with," Morris said. "He broke his thumb. Our doctor is going to see him again this morning. We'll update you on that with more detail later ... I just don't have a feel for what it is or how bad it is."

"Safety is something I've been doing for the last seven years. It's just a matter of getting the terminology down and taking some more reps and getting on the same page with the rest of the defense so we don't miss a beat. Once I get out there I'm going to do what I do and just play football. Once you think about it too much it's paralysis by analysis, and you don't want that to happen," Phillips said.
