Cardinals GM Bob Ferguson in an interview on KGME says that FB Larry Centers, who was released earlier today, was willing to restructure his contract, but the team felt like they were not going to be able to workout a deal with him. Ferguson was very upset about having to release Centers and he is confident Centers will land somewhere else. He expects the whole team to step up and play better. A left tackle to take the place of Lomas Brown, a linebacker to step in for Jamir Miller and a FB to take over for Centers remain key needs. Ferguson understands the potential fan reaction and he knows the fans will be upset - rightfully so since Centers is a fan favorite. He believes that the Cardinals offense has evolved to a new level and that Centers could have been a part of it but it just did not work out. This is probably not the last of contract restructuring for this year, but Centers may be the last of the vets released for salary cap reasons. Ferguson in discussing the third-down back role that Centers vacates mentioned that Adrian Murrell, Michael Pittman and rookies FB Joel Makovica can all be strong receiving backs.

Cardinals OT L.J. Shelton was interviewed on TV-12 in Phoenix on Sunday night and he's looking forward to competing for the starting LT spot in training camp. He's been a little limited in minicamp due to his recent arthroscopic surgery on his knee. The surgery, which was his first ever, was to take care of "wear and tear." He likened the surgery to an oil change for a car. His preferred position is left tackle, but he's willing to play anywhere on the offensive line that the team may need him. He's expected to compete with Anthony Clement for the LT position left vacant by the departure of Lomas Brown to Cleveland.

Bob Ferguson, of the Cardinals, was interviewed on KPNX-TV in Phoenix tonight. The Cardinals do have a two-year offer on the table to LB Jamir Miller, a fair offer according to Ferguson. Miller will reportedly visit another team this week although Ferguson did not name that team. When asked if he would change the Cardinals offer to match a potential better offer Miller could receive, he responded that he wasn't on TV to negotiate a contract for Miller. They still plan to replace Lomas Brown in the draft. Ferguson's contract is up in May and although he sidestepped a question about his return he said he would like to be back with the Cardinals. He wants to be around to see the expected continued improvement of the Cardinals.

Brown was not aware of the Cardinals offer on Wednesday because he stopped talking to his agent. Brown said there was a "big misunderstanding in the line of communication," and that as a result, he is considering firing his agents who were unavailable for comment. "They might not be my agents much longer," Brown said. "You're dealing with a person's integrity. When I tell someone I'm going to a place, I keep my word. They were the ones who said I'm not going (to Cleveland)." Brown went on to state that he never second guessed his decision. Hopefully this story, as reported, clears up a lot of the past three days' confusion.
