The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports former Ohio State QB Steve Bellisari was one of nine free agents who visited the Cleveland Browns Tuesday, Sept. 2, primarily for placement on their emergency list. He was looked at as a safety.

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports when free agent WR Ricky Proehl left the St. Louis Rams, not only did the team lose a quality receiver but K Jeff Wilkins lost his place holder. The team is currently practicing safeties Steve Bellisari and Nick Sorensen to assume the holding responsibilities. Recently acquired 19-year veteran punter Sean Landeta has never held for kickers on a regular basis.

The Post Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams rookie S Steve Bellisari (knee) returned to practice Wednesday. After he was injured Saturday, he was told that the partial tear of a ligament would keep him out two to three weeks. "I've been doing everything the doctor says to make sure I get to where I need to be to play again," Bellisari said after Wednesday's practice. "I worked out a little bit (Tuesday) and did a running program with one of the trainers. They thought I looked good so I figured I'd go ahead today and see how it felt." He did not participate in every drill Wednesday.

The Post Dispatch reports St. Louis Rams rookie S Steve Bellisari has agreed to a three-year, $950,000 deal with the team. The contract included a signing bonus of $45,000 and minimum base salries in 2002, 2003 and 2004. "I wanted to get it done as quickly as possible," said Bellisari, who plans on signing his contract Thursday. "I didn't want it hanging over my head. It's just the way the cards fell that I ended up being the last (one to sign). It wasn't by design."

DT Jeff Zgonina (elbow) and WR Yo Murphy (quad tendon) will be limited. S Steve Bellisari and LB Courtland Bullard, both from Ohio State, will be out because under NFL rules rookies can't participate until their college class has graduated.

There are also doubts whether Cota can run well enough to play in defensive coordinator Lovie Smith's defensive scheme.

The Columbus Dispatch reports former Ohio State QB Steve Bellisari worked out as both a quarterback and a safety during Friday's pro day. Bellisari wasn't among the players invited to the NFL Combine earlier this year. While the workouts were closed to the media, one source said Bellisari looked sharp throwing the football and ran a 4.6-second "40".
