Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Giants appear to be out of the running for free-agent DL Chris Canty (Cowboys) after signing DL Rocky Bernard (Seahawks). However, Canty is not scheduled to leave New York until the evening of Sunday, March 1, and a source said the team is still interested in signing both Canty and Bernard. One potential hurdle is money as Canty is believed to be looking for close to $8 million per year.

Updating a previous item, Ralph Vacchiano, of the New York Daily News, reports free-agent DL Rocky Bernard (Seahawks) arrived in the evening of Friday, Feb. 27, for his visit with the New York Giants. Bernard has tentative plans to make some more visits next week, but a source familiar with his plans said if he likes what he hears from the Giants he could cancel those. The source added that Bernard is not likely to agree to anything with the Giants until at least Saturday, Feb. 28.

Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports the New York Giants will bring in free-agent DT Rocky Bernard (Seahawks) for a visit Friday, Feb. 27. The Giants are looking to add depth to the interior of their defensive line. Bernard would likely fit into a rotation along starters Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield and sub Jay Alford.
