Chiefs | Hall Wins Record Third POTW Honor

The NFL informed the Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday, Sept. 30, that Chiefs WR/KR Dante Hall is the first player in NFL history to be named conference Player of the Week for three consecutive weeks after earning Week Four AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. Hall's trifecta also marks just the third time that a player has won Special Teams Player of the Week honors three times in a season since the award's inception in 1993, joining former Chiefs return specialist Tamarick Vanover who was a three-time recipient in two seasons (1995 and 1997).

Jay Paris for the North County Times reports San Diego Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer is considering making a change on special teams Ė removing Tamarick Vanover from duties and inserting No. 2 WR Tim Dwight. While he hasnít made an official announcement on the topic, coaches told Dwight to be ready just in case. The Chargers could also move No. 3 WR Reche Caldwell to the position if they donít want to risk getting one of their starters hurt on special teams.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports San Diego Chargers WR/KR Tamarick Vanover (thigh) was sidelined on Sunday with a deep thigh bruise, so WR Tim Dwight was fielding punts for the first time this year. WR Reche Caldwell replaced Vanover on kickoff returns.

Chargers.com reports that even though San Diego Chargers WR Tim Dwight was responsible for it last season, free agent signee WR Tamarick Vanover may assume punt return duties in 2002. Vanover has returned eight kicks for scores in his career - four punts and four kickoffs. Vanover also may join KR Ronney Jenkins on kickoff returns.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the San Diego Chargers have signed WR/KR Tamarick Vanover to a one-year, $525,000 deal. Vanover hasn't been in the league the last 1 1/2 years and spent four months in confinement for his part in drug and car-theft rings.

The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins plan to audition punt returners tomorrow. The team is not that pleased with Michael Bates and Kevin Lockett, their current punt returners. The Redskins have worked out former Kansas City PR Tamarick Vanover, but coach Marty Schottenheimer said, "I want to look and evaluate who else is available."

The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins held workouts for WR/PR Tamarick Vanover, formerly of the Chiefs, OL Calvin Collins, formerly of the Falcons and DT Tyrone Williams, formerly of the Chiefs earlier today. Coach Marty Schottenheimer said he told Vanover he had no need for a returner because he is happy with Michael Bates and did not sign Collins or Williams.

The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins spoke with free agent WR Tamarick Vanover yesterday after the NFL decided they would not suspend Vanover for his role in a federal stolen car case. The two sides are expected to talk again on Monday but no scheduled workout has been planned.

The Washington Post reports WR Tamarick Vanover told the Biloxi Sun Herald he has talked to Washington Redskins head coach Marty Shottenheimer about a possible tryout with the team. Vanover, who missed all of last season after pleading guilty to a felony charge, still faces a possible suspension by the NFL under the league's anti-crime policy.

The Kansas City Star reports former NFL WR Tamarick Vanover and the Kansas City Chiefs are at war over money. Both parties claim the other side owes them money. Vanover has filed a grievance with the NFLPA seeking the deferred portion of a $500,000 bonus he was supposed to receive as a signing bonus. The Chiefs, in turn, filed a countergrievance asking Vanover to return the portion that was paid up-front. An arbitrator will hear the case next Friday.

The Chiefs Official Web Site reports Tamarick Vanover has been moved back to the wide receiver position for this year. Many may remember the team experimented with him at the RB position a year ago. Head coach Gunther Cunningham is very excited about his talent but feels he's still very young and raw.
