Ken Berger, of New York Newsday, reports New York Jets DT Josh Evans (back) said he is retiring. Due to back surgery that cost him all but one game in 2004, Evans said he is not able to physically do a lot of things he used to do. Evans said he will submit his retirement papers to the league shortly.

Updating ongoing reports, New York Jets DT Josh Evans (back) is scheduled to undergo back surgery this week and will be out at least five weeks, reports NewYorkJets.com. "It will be at least five weeks or so, I assume," head coach Herman Edwards said. "They haven't given us the date on that."
