Paul Thompson, of the Daily News, reports Houston Texans LB Quincy Monk is looking forward to the 2005 season. He'll compete with LB Jason Babin for a starting spot, but will most likely remain No. 2 on the team's depth chart. "I want to compete for a starting job and whatever happens with that happens. But I'm just trying to go out there and mentally be ready to take on anything. Last year with a new staff coming in (in New York) it was kind of haywire. Now I'm more focused and I know really what time it is," Monk said. Monk signed with Houston December 15, 2004 and was inactive for one game before playing the final two games. He finished with two special teams stops, and even landed a game ball for his return effort. Whatever his role winds up being in 2005 Monk likes the chances for the Texans who are looking to improve on last season's 7-9 mark. "I feel really good, we've got a great team, a lot of talent," Monk said. "I really think we have the potential to do really great things with the amount of talent we have."

The Houston Chronicle reports Houston Texans head coach Dom Capers said LBs Charlie Anderson, Quincy Monk and possibly D.D. Acholonu, who has been on the practice squad all season, could see playing time to replace LB Antwan Peek (shoulder) in third-down pass rushing situations.

Vito Stellino reports for the Florida Times-Union the Jacksonsville Jaguars compromised with Angelo Wright to get rookie S Steve Smith signed. Since the player drafted ahead of him, Quincy Monk of the New York Giants, got a $25,500 signing bonus, the Jaguars originally offered Smith $25,000. Wright argued Smith should not be penalized because Monk tooks a deal that did not match the "slotting" requirements. The Jaguars agreed and gave him the same amount Monk received.

ESPN reports the New York Giants have reached a contract agreement with seventh-round draft pick, LB Quincy Monk. He will sign a three-year, $930,500 contract. The contract includes a signing bonus of $25,500 and base salaries of $225,000 (for 2002), $300,000 (2003) and $380,000 (2004).
