Wed, 26 Nov 2003 06:14:02 -0800
Michael Eisen, of Giants.com, reports New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel said RB Delvin Joyce will continue to be a part of the team's punt and kickoff return teams. Joyce got his first chance to do so in Monday's, Nov. 24, game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and had the Giants' longest kickoff return of the season. "He (Joyce) did a hell of a job," Fassel said. "That was a great run. I haven't gotten to the point that I am going to use Delvin exclusively. I haven't made up my mind, we may stay with the same program." RB Brian Mitchell is the current primary returner.

Tara Sullivan, of the North Jersey Media Group, reports New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel said he is considering a change at punt returner, specifically, the replacement of KR Brian Mitchell with RB Delvin Joyce. "Some of it is just situational and Brian can't do anything about it," Fassel said. "Some of it is the blocking is not there and some of it is Brian. ... When I make a change I've got to see how much is totally on Brian, and how much of it is the help he is getting. It's like the quarterback, he's so dependent on so many people doing things for him. It's pretty hard to put the spotlight on him, but I have considered it, yes."

New York Giants RB Delvin Joyce will remain the No. 2 back behind starting RB Tiki Barber and ahead of backup RB Dorsey Levens, according to Giants head coach Jim Fassel. Joyce was in for Barber for a pivotal three-and-out in the fourth quarter Sunday, Oct. 5, against the Miami Dolphins. Fassel said he was committed to giving Barber a break but acknowledged it would have been nice to get Joyce in for one earlier in the game.
Sun, 05 Oct 2003 07:35:56 -0700
Tara Sullivan, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Giants RB Delvin Joyce will spell RB Tiki Barber for a few plays or an entire series during Week 5 in order to give Barber some much-needed rest. As previously reported, Barber has taken a beating so far this season as the team's lone running back and the coaching staff is worried about risking injury with him. "What's going to happen is we're going to tell him he's out," running backs coach Eric Studesville said of Barber. "That's the only way we're going to do it because he'll never say he wants to come out, and if I keep asking him he won't tell me anything. So I'm going to tell him, 'You're done for a minute, get your rest, and here we go.'"

It hasn't been made clear if Levens is even ahead of RB Ron Dayne on the depth chart. "The way it's come down," Levens said, "I have no desire to be here. I'm at the point in my career where I've done a lot. I'm not playing because I have to play. I'm playing because I love the game. And I didn't come here to be a cheerleader."

Tara Sullivan, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Giants RB Delvin Joyce was the team's leading rusher in the Thursday, Aug. 28 pre-season finale against the Baltimore Ravens, gaining 60 yards on 17 carries and scoring a touchdown. He already has an important role because of his value as a return specialist and cover man on special teams, abilities neither Giants RB Ron Dayne nor Dorsey Levens possess. By proving to Giants head coach Jim Fassel he also can function on offense, Joyce made the coach's decision easier. "I just needed to look at who the next-most productive guy is and at that point in time, it doesn't matter where they were drafted, how long they've been with us, or what money they make," Fassel said. "It's the best guy who's going to play. You can't argue with his production. He's looked extremely good on the run, pass, pass protection, and return ability."
Mon, 01 Sep 2003 16:33:08 -0700
Giants.com's Michael Eisen reports New York Giants RB Delvin Joyce was named the No. 2 running back on the depth chart Monday, Sept. 1. "Delvin had a heck of a preseason," Giants RB Tiki Barber said. "He was playing with the second and third offensive lines, and he still was producing and making yards. Because we can't dress four tailbacks, Delvin is the logical choice. He'll be capable of doing whatever needs to be done."
