New York Giants OT Luke Petitgout (back), who sat out the Week 13 game against the Buffalo Bills due to a back injury, has not improved much and his status for Week 14 is uncertain. If Petitgout is unable to play, OT Jeff Roehl, who struggled mightily in Week 13, may start at left tackle. OL Jeff Hatch is another option.

New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel would not announce what, if any, changes will take place on the offensive line, and it is not clear who would play right tackle. The candidates are rookie Jeff Roehl, Ian Allen and Jeff Hatch. Allen was the right tackle throughout training camp and for the opener, but he was benched in Week 2. Fassel said he might shuffle the line week-to-week to account for various matchup situations.

He's going to be like a rookie. This off-season program may be more valuable to him than anybody we have on this team. He's been working, he's been lifting. But now he can get around our guys and start some football work out on the field, along with the lifting and the running. I think that's extremely important."

The NY Times Buster Onley reports the New York Giants have agreed to terms with third-round draft pick, OT Jeff Hatch. Hatch agreed to a three-year deal for $1.405 million, with a signing bonus of $500,000. "Oh man, I'm just glad it's over with," Hatch said yesterday. "Now I can concentrate on football. First of all, I was anxious because I'm less than a week away from my first N.F.L. camp, and I wanted to get this done and was trying not to stress about it."

There remains a chance that ORT Luke Petitgout could be shifted to LT, but that doesn’t appear to be the direction head coach Jim Fassel wants to go. He would probably like to see Chris Bober or Jeff Hatch perform well in upcoming camps and outright win the starting job, which would allow them to keep Petitgout at right tackle.

The NY Times reports agent Alan Herman and New York Giants GM Ernie Accorsi resolved an issue over the team's injury waiver for rookie OT Jeff Hatch, and Hatch is expected at practice Saturday. Herman said in a telephone interview that Hatch would participate Saturday. Hatch's inactivity had irked Accorsi. "It's been good enough for all the draft choices since I've been here," Accorsi said. "It's also the first time in my career of 32 years someone hasn't participated in a mini-camp."

Associated Press reports New York Giants rookie OT Jeff Hatch refused to sign an injury waiver before Friday’s mini-camp and didn’t practice. Hatch’s agent, Alan Herman, advised him not to sign and is the first Giants draft pick not to sign. General manager Ernie Accorsi and head coach Jim Fassel were annoyed by the decision. Hatch said he wants to practice and hopes to get the issue resolved before the mini-camp ends Sunday.
