It is real important to know that the confidence we have in Romo, the time he's spending on Mondays and Tuesdays with coaches, Wednesdays, that inordinate amount of time that he's right in there designing the game plan. What you saw the other day was Wade Wilson and taking advantage of him up high."

"The other night, we were not," he said, asked if he was satisfied with the number of targets Bryant is getting. "I think he got two. Typically, he's gotten many more than that, and I think his production speaks for itself that way. But he's one of those players you want to make sure you give him chances."

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he won't shake up the coaching staff during the team's bye week in Week 11. Jones said defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin won't be fired and head coach Jason Garrett won't take the play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. The Cowboys were held to 193 yards of total offense in their Week 10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The team's defense ranks last in the league with an average of 439.8 yards per game. Jones believes the team needs to play more man coverage on defense. "You need to probably man up more in the secondary than we've been doing, rather than relying on zone," Jones said. "Because if we can't get pressure and we're relying on the traditional zone as you might mentally picture it, then that's a recipe for what happened to us the other night."

"Just watching him and seeing how he's doing coming back off the injury and making sure we're doing the right things, and rest is part of the equation for him, as it would be for anybody," Garrett said.
Fantasy Tip: It appears the Cowboys are just being cautious with Austin at this point, but still check back as the weekend goes on, just to be sure there are no setbacks.
Tue, 01 Oct 2013 10:09:21 -0700
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the team has to do a better job improving the pass rush moving forward after Week 4. "They did not play to their level and a lot of different reasons for that," Garrett said. "We're playing a lot of different combinations ... but there are no excuses. One of the things that they did is they possessed the ball a lot. They were in that no-huddle offense and [Rivers] was at the line of scrimmage and they're playing at a pace that they're controlling. Sometimes that's hard on defensive linemen but that's the nature of this league. That happens a lot and you just have to make sure that you're ready for the challenge."

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett praised CB Orlando Scandrick, saying he competed well with good wide receivers. "Scandrick did some good things," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. "Orlando's a good football player. He's one of those guys that sometimes you pigeon hole guys and say, 'Hey, he's an inside guy. He's a nickel.' He's got a little something to him. He always has. A little bit of a chip on his shoulder, kind of like a bolder or a mountain. We think that's good. He brings that with every opportunity we give him, whether it's a as teams guy or an inside cover guy, as a nickel or as an outside guy. I thought he competed well with some good receivers."
Tue, 17 Sep 2013 09:43:45 -0700
Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said the team needs to put more of an emphasis on the running game in order to balance out the offense after their 17-16 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2. RB DeMarco Murray had only 12 carries against the Chiefs and didn't run the ball after the 2:12 mark in the third quarter. "Obviously we want to have more balance, not only more balance at the end of the game but more balance throughout the game," Garrett said. "We have to run the ball more than 16 times in the game, and we have to be able to run it throughout the game. We just simply have to do a better job of that." The Cowboys are averaging 62 yards rushing through the first two weeks.
Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys preached the same thing after their Week 1 victory, and they led that entire game. It's frustrating to see for Murray owners, but if the team remains committed to improving their offense, he needs to touch the ball more.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he is fine with giving up the play calling to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan because he has been looking to get more involved with the defense and special teams. "I made a very conscious effort over the last couple of years to coach the whole football team. I spent time with the defensive guys on their side of the practice field. I spent a lot of time in the defensive meetings and the special teams meetings. I've always done that. But just the mechanics of someone else calling the actual plays allows me to maybe take a different view of it. So you'll see that on the practice field. That's how we operated all throughout the offseason in our OTAs and our mini-camp, and it worked very smoothly for us, and we'll continue to do that," Garrett said.

Like with all rookies, there's a lot to learn when you get here. I think he's done a good job learning from the experiences he had as a player last year."

"That's the nature of this thing and that's what makes the NFL great. You come here to work every day. And we use the word urgency a lot ... And every day is important, as a coach, as a player we are trying to get ourselves better each and every day to become the team we want to be."

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said he wants quarterback QB Tony Romo engaged and involved in communicating between the coaches and the players. "The thing that we want from our quarterbacks is we want them to be engaged and involved," Garrett said. "Tony has always been that. Communication between all of our players and coaching staff is critical. It's certainly critical with that position."
Fantasy Tip: Romo being more involved in the planning and weekly preparation is good for all involved in terms of communication, and could help eliminate some of the turnovers and mistakes that have hurt Romo in the past.

Although Callahan has not been officially announced as the playcaller, he is expected to assume that role. That's 28 more opportunities with the ball," Garrett said. "Give me some of those 28 opportunities. That's something that we really sat back and thought a lot about, had a lot of discussions about - what's the best way to try to achieve that, and then, 'OK, you want to do that, now who are the guys who can help implement that?'"

"I think you get that when you create more input, influence, whatever you want to call it ..." Jones said. "If Bill Callahan has more influence - let's make that assumption. Not only did he make those plays, but he made a number of other plays in the game. I think he's grown. I think he's playing with a great deal of confidence. He and (Tony Romo) have a really, really good relationship. They're seeing the field the same way. He's been good. There's no question about that."
