The most vulnerable player would appear to be starting OT Ian Allen. Fassel said both on Monday and Wednesday that Allen had a rough game Sunday, Sept. 7 against the St. Louis Rams. The problem is that the only other player on the roster who has played more than a quarter at right tackle in the NFL is Giants OT Luke Petitgout, who started there in 2000 and 2001. But it would seem to be extremely unlikely the team would move Petitgout.
Mon, 08 Sep 2003 19:27:36 -0700 New York Giants head coach Jim Fassel said Giants OT Ian Allen "needs to get better'' after his performance in the Sunday, Sept. 7 season opener against the St. Louis Rams, in which Rams DL Leonard Little gave him trouble with speed rushes. Fassel also wasn't impressed with Allen's work in run blocking. With Allen struggling and OT Luke Petitgout missing most of the game with a back injury, the team went with shorter pass routes and quicker drops than it planned to and also stuck to the running game behind Giants RB Tiki Barber. Fassel said he will consider position changes and/or bringing in new linemen this week, pending Petitgout's status.
