Thu, 07 Dec 2000 10:39:36 -0800
The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers woes may continue next year, simply because the defensive backfield may take a big hit due to salary cap restraints. The Panthers are about $10 million over the projected 2001 salary cap, which will make it difficult to keep their secondary together. CBs Eric Davis, Jimmy Hitchcock and Doug Evans combine for a $15.2198 million hit against the cap, so all three will likely be approached about re-working their contract. S Mike Minter is able to leave via free agency and may demand a salary between $3-$4 million per year on the open market, making it difficult for the Panthers to hold onto him.
