Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints newly acquired S Victor Green practiced for the first time Wednesday, Sept. 17, and is expected to be available for spot duty Sunday, Sept. 21, against the Tennessee Titans, according to Saints head coach Jim Haslett. "I just need to learn the terminology," Green said. "The defense is similar to the one we ran in New England. I just need to learn the checks. Right now, I'm the first safety that is going to go in there if somebody goes down, so I've got to be ready."

"I have a good feeling coming up there and playing for [coach] Belichick and that staff,'' Green said. He didn't rule out a deal getting done, but said they're moving on for now after hitting a wall in talks on Thursday. It's not known whether the hangup was money or length of a contract. Green said that New England is his first choice. Green said he doesn't feel he needs to sign with a team that puts something on the table, as he isn't willing to play for the minimum salary. He said he's already received two contract offers, which he turned down. He's asked the Patriots to get a deal done, but the bottom line is going to be what kind of value the team puts on him.

Updating previous reports, the Tennessee Titans may be holding off soon on the free agent safety market if they don't work out a deal in the next few days. GM Floyd Reese said the team will then turn almost exclusively towards getting ready for the upcoming NFL Draft. That doesn't mean the team wouldn't still try to sign veteran free agent safeties after the draft, though, as the team would have more time following the draft to revisit the position. The Titans met with five safeties last week and have made offers to at least Lance Schulters (49ers) and Victor Green (Jets). Reese also confirmed the team inquired about free agent S Rod Woodson (Ravens) earlier this year.
