Ashworth worked there because OG Floyd Womack (triceps) missed practice after feeling soreness in his left triceps tendon. The team said they held Womack out as a precaution.

The team will not move OG Sean Locklear away from his right tackle position. They will not push C Chris Spencer unless C Robbie Tobeck falters. Holmgren admitted he is unsure where OT Tom Ashworth will fit in.

Roy Cummings, of the Tampa Tribune, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely lose out on free agent OT Tom Ashworth (Patriots). Ashworth's agent, Tom Mills, said the team's contract offer is not what they are looking for. Mills said, "His visit there [last week] went great and they're telling us he's better than both of the starters they have there now, but they're not saying that with their offer. It's a multiyear offer, but it's at backup rates."

While Ashworth remains interested in the Bucs, he also plans to meet with the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. The Miami Dolphins appear to have lost interest in Ashworth.

"There's plenty of talk, but not a deal," agent Tom Mills said about the Dolphins. "It'll probably be into Monday before we have something (with one of a number of teams.) The Dolphins have not been very aggressive, so I'm not sure they're a player."

Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered into preliminary contract discussions with the agent for free agent OT Tom Ashworth (Patriots) Tuesday, March 14. "We've engaged in preliminary talks about numbers," said Ashworth's agent, Tom Mills. "They've submitted some numbers, and we've submitted some. I don't think we're really close. We're really just talking broad concepts more than anything else." Ashworth has also talked with the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets and Mills said three teams are interested in signing his client.
