Cardinals | Player and the One-Bar Helmet

Thu, 21 Jul 2005 23:00:11 -0700

Scott D. Jones, of AZCardinals.com, reports when Arizona Cardinals P Scott Player decides to retire from the league, it will mark the end of an era in the NFL. The pending retirement of PK Gary Anderson and last year's retirement of St. Louis Rams P Sean Landeta have left the Cardinal veteran as the lone remaining player to use the single (or one-bar) helmet. Player started wearing the "one-bar" when he joined the league in 1998 and doesn't apologize for his taste in equipment. "I got into a bad habit (with other mask styles) of holding the ball too high and it affected by kicks," Player said. "But with the 'one-bar', there's nothing blocking my vision, the ball or what's in front of me."
