Chargers | TEs, RBs might be used more to block

Thu, 17 Nov 2011 20:24:19 -0800

With several injuries along the offensive line for the San Diego Chargers, the tight ends and running backs might be asked to block more in Week 11 against the Chicago Bears. "They're real active," RB Ryan Mathews said Thursday, Nov. 17. "That's going to be a big part (for) us running backs is helping out our linemen a little bit." TE Randy McMichael was used more in the second half in Week 10 to help out along the line, and that might be the case again in Week 11.

Chargers | Antonio Gates unlikely for Week 12

Fri, 26 Nov 2010 18:28:47 -0800

San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (foot) did not practice Friday, Nov. 26, according to Scott Bair of The North County Times. Gates is listed as questionable for Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts, but he is not expected to play.

Fantasy Tip: It's not a good idea to expect to rely on Gates this week, once again. The Chargers have the Sunday night game, so your alternatives are extremely limited after that if you bank on playing him. Randy McMichael (hamstring) might be an acceptable very deep alternative; however, although he's expected to play, he's a little gimpy.
