Retired QB David Garrard (knee) was struggling with deeper passes during New York Jets offseason workouts this offseason because his knee prevented him to drive the ball. Garrard did well on his shorter routes during the workouts. He did miss some workouts earlier this offseason because of the injury.

New York Jets starting QB Mark Sanchez should have an edge on the starting quarterback job over QB Geno Smith after the news of QB David Garrard possibly retiring today, according to former head coach Herm Edwards. "This is now Mark Sanchez's job to lose," Edwards said.

It appears that New York Jets QB David Garrard (knee) is preparing to retire as he continues to have knee issues. "Having to call it quits. My knee is not holding up. Continuing to swell after practices. Limiting what I can do," Garrard said.

New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez could very well be the team's starting quarterback this upcoming season. Sanchez may provide the team's best option at quarterback because QB Geno Smith is considered raw at this point and QB David Garrard is 35 years old and hasn't played an NFL game since 2010. Head coach Rex Ryan is likely coaching for his job this year, so he likely will pick the starting quarterback who will best help him win games in the short term.

New York Jets QB David Garrard is ready to compete for the starting job, and is not there just to collect a check. "I'm healthy now and I'm going to be going after it. I'm not here collecting paychecks," Garrard said Thursday afternoon. "That's not what I'm about. I'm definitely healthy and I definitely want to get out there. I want to be the guy but I can't talk about it. I gotta get on the field and do it."
