Mike Chappell, of the Indianapolis Star, reports Indianapolis Colts RB James Mungro (knee) is reportedly out for the entire 2006 season. The team made no announcement, but an individual close to Mungro said Tuesday, Aug. 22, Mungro will miss the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Sunday's preseason loss, Aug. 20, to Seattle.

Michael Marot, of the Associated Press, reports Indianapolis Colts RB James Mungro (knee) injured his knee Sunday night, Aug. 20, and was having tests to determine the extent of his injury Monday, Aug. 21. Trainers helped Mungro off the field early in the third quarter when Seahawks' CB Jordan Babineaux tackled him for a 5-yard loss.

Colts | Addai gets off to good start; RB competition underway

Reggie Hayes, of the News-Sentinel, reports Indianapolis Colts rookie RB Joseph Addai got off to a good start at practice Monday, July 31. He earned a tie for loudest applause from fans during his first day in training camp. Addai sparked the cheer by breaking an early-morning scrimmage run for about 20 yards. "It felt good to come out there and build a little confidence," Addai said. "I just have to keep taking reps and understand what's going on, understand who does what. I'm a team player. Whatever gets the job done, block for the pass, catch the ball, run, I'm going to do." Addai and RB Dominic Rhodes both worked with the first team at times during scrimmage sessions in both full pads in the morning and helmets and shorts in the afternoon. QB Peyton Manning praised Addai for executing on the patented stretch play that James ran to perfection. Rhodes caught Manning's eye with his hands. Head coach Tony Dungy hasn't said whether the Colts plan to settle on one primary back or alternate between Addai, Rhodes and possibly James Mungro.

John Oehser, of Colts.com, reports Indianapolis Colts FB James Mungro, although he will probably be No. 3 on the depth chart throughout the season, is expecting to see an increased role in the offense after the departure of RB Edgerrin James. Head coach Tony Dungy has said that more running backs will be used than before, meaning that Mungro will see action along with RB Dominic Rhodes, who is currently No. 1 on the depth chart, and first-round pick RB Joseph Addai. "Now, with Edgerrin gone, it's an opportunity to get more playing time," Mungro said. "Preparation's even more valuable for me now than it has been the last few years."
