Tom James, of the Tribune Star, reports the Indianapolis Colts signed free agent P Chad Stanley (Texans) to the team's offseason roster. Stanley was released by the Houston Texans on Sept. 8, 2007. He is currently one of two punters on the Colts roster. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"I know Chad Stanley can kick the ball better than he did last night, and he will be the first one to tell you that," Kubiak said.

Nick Schenck, HoustonTexans.com, reports seven Houston Texans' players—C Steve McKinney, P Chad Stanley, OT Seth Wand, FB Jarrod Baxter, OG Fred Weary, C Todd Washington and LS Bryan Pittman—visited the FBI Firearms Training Center in Conroe, Texas, Tuesday, July 12. "It's a lot different than what you see in the movies," said Pittman, after the teammates took part in assault rifle drills. The players were there spend a few hours walking in the shoes of an FBI agent, as well as express thanks for the officers' selfless duty.

Stanley, who had three punts inside the 20-yard line, finished with a net average of 45.7 yards per punt.

"Chad is a great success story, and we're excited to sign him to an extension," Texans general manager Charley Casserly said. "He really has been close to perfect in his 20 games with us."

The Arizona Republic reports Arizona Cardinals P Scott Player ran Monday and was scheduled to try kicking today. If he can kick this week the team may be able to release his fill-in, Chad Stanley, which would free up a roster space. Starting LG Pete Kendall (foot) was expected to have an MRI last night. He is not expected to play this week. Starting RG Leonard Davis (back spasms) was better yesterday. OLB Rob Fredrickson is still bothered by a sore knee that is expected to trouble him for the rest of the season.

John Clayton reports for ESPN in addition to signing rookie free agent P Dan Hadenfieldt to the practice squad, the New England Patriots also had veteran P Ken Walter stay overnight Tuesday in case Hadenfieldt doesn't look great in early practices. The team checked out at P Daniel Pope, but sent him home. They had P Chad Stanley drive to the airport to make a flight to their facility but called him before the flight to cancel. The team is seeking a replacement for the released Lee Johnson.

Rich Cimini reports for the NY Daily News the New York Jets may indeed be looking to add another punter before next Monday's game. Current P Tom Tupa had a bad game last Sunday. According to sources, the punters the Jets are focusing on are Daniel Pope, Chad Stanley and Ken Walter. Pope, who punted last season for the Bengals, worked out Tuesday for the Jets. Stanley and Walter, formerly of the 49ers and Panthers, respectively will audition today for the team. Tommy Parks, who punted week one for the Jets, is not being considered. GM Terry Bradway indicated Tuesday that "there's a chance we might" sign a punter by the end of the week.

49ers.com reports the team has released WR Dwight Carter, DT Daniel Greer, FB Jasen Isom, CB Dee Moronkola, P Chad Stanley and C Bruce Wiggins. The toughest cut was Stanley. He was beat out by newly signed punter Jason Baker. “We believe that Chad Stanley is a good punter,” said Steve Mariucci. “He has been a good 49er and we wish him the very, very best. That was a tough decision for us to make.”

Matt Maiocco reports for the Press Democrat San Francisco 49ers C Ben Lynch injured his ribs during last night's pre-season game. Lynch said he was kicked and X-rays were negative. Lynch was listed as probable for next Sunday's game. DB Brian Smith (left hamstring) was listed as questionable. RB Jonas Lewis (ribs), LB Jeff Ulbrich (right knee) and P Chad Stanley (right hip flexor) were listed as probable on the team's preliminary injury report.

Matt Maiocco reports for the Press Democrat the 49ers tender offers to some of their other exclusive-rights free agents were: OC Ben Lynch and P Chad Stanley, two-year veterans, were tendered at $389,000, while RB Jonas Lewis and S Ronnie Heard, coming off their rookie seasons, were tendered at $298,000. Dan Dercher, who was not tendered an offer, fell out of favor with management after declining an assignment to NFL Europe. The 49ers can free up more cap space later by signing S Lance Schulters, tendered the high offer of 1.488 million, to a long-term deal and reducing his cap figure for the upcoming season. The 49ers will also try to lock up QB Jeff Garcia and FB Fred Beasley to a long-term contracts prior to training camp.

49ers | Tender Offers Made

According to their official site, the San Francisco 49ers made tender offers to nine free agents today. FS Lance Schulters, FB Fred Beasley, LB Jeff Posey and K Wade Richey were the restricted free agents issued tenders. Schulters was given the highest tender meaning his compensatioin will be first and third round draft choices. Beasely was given the middle tender of $1.115 million which requires a first round pick as compensation. Posey and Richey were given minimum tenders of $512,000. The 49ers made tenders to exclusive-rights free agents, QB Jeff Garcia, RB Jonas Lewis, C Ben Lynch, S Ronnie Heard and P Chad Stanley.
