ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the St. Louis Rams have signed free agent OL Ryan Schau, who sat out the 2003 season with a staph infection. While terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is believed he signed a one-year deal for the NFL minimum base salary.

Joseph Duarte, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans OL Ryan Schau (knee) spent the weekend in the hospital being treated for an infection behind his left knee. Texans head coach Dom Capers said Schau was to be discharged from the hospital Monday, August 11. Schau is expected to miss practice the rest of the week and will not be available for the Friday, August 15 pre-season game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Updating previous reports, Joseph Duarte and Carlton Thompson, of the Houston Chronicle, report Houston Texans C Ryan Schau (finger) had his dislocated finger reset and taped before the afternoon workout Tuesday, July 29. Schau worked at guard instead of center because of his injury.

Coach Dom Capers said if Schau can't play on Sunday, backup G DeMingo Graham would start at left guard and Chad Overhauser would back up at left guard and center.

The Houston Chronicle reports the Houston Texans have given exclusive-rights free agent TE Johnny Huggins a qualifying offer, meaning they will retain his rights. RT Ryan Young was given the maximum tender of $1.227 million, meaning he carries a first-round draft pick as compensation if another team signs him. C Ryan Schau was given the minimum tender of $563,000. The Texans would get no draft compensation because Schau was an undrafted free agent. KR Charlie Rogers was also given the minimum tender offer. The Texans can negotiate contracts with the players at a later time, and there are indications they will sign Young, and possibly Huggins, to long-term deals.
