Updating a previous report, Carlton Thompson, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans RT Jimmy Herndon (knee) will be out for season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the scrimmage versus the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, Aug. 2. Originally announced just a sprain, Herndon injured his knee without contact while planting his foot in the turf.

The AP reports Houston Texans RT Ryan Young (groin) is now going to have surgery and he is expected to miss four to eight weeks. His absence and that of OT Tony Boselli means the team likely will begin the season starting Jimmy Herndon and rookie Chester Pitts at tackle.

The Houston Chronicle reports free agent OL Jimmy Herndon (Bears), who visited Houston Wednesday, is also considering re-signing with the Bears. The Dolphins are said to be interested in him as well. He was the Chicago Bears top backup for OTs Blake Brockermeyer and James Williams. "I'd love to be here," said Herndon, who lives in Austin.
