Bill Coats, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams head coach Scott Linehan does not want to consider the fact that RB Marshall Faulk (knees) may not be with the team in 2006. "I haven't crossed that bridge yet," Linehan said. If Faulk retires, the Rams may try to sign to another running back to join backup RB Tony Fisher. Linehan said Fisher has "really made a name for himself as a receiving back. But I think he also has the ability to come in on first and second down, whenever we need to give Steven (RB Jackson) a blow. That'll be a part of his role, too."

If Herron gets the call, he will be the sixth player to start at running back for the Packers this season. It would mean Fisher will remain in his role as the third-down back. Fisher said he feels the coaching staff has pigeonholed him as a third-down back. The coaches like him in that role because he's a good receiver out of the backfield and can pick up blitzes.

Green Bay Packers RB Samkon Gado (knee) suffered a torn MCL in his right knee during Week 15 and he is expected to miss three to six weeks of action. PackersNews.com reports Green Bay Packers RB Samkon Gado said he believes there's a good chance he will start Sunday's game, Nov. 27, at Philadelphia, as long as he finishes the week with strong practices. Thu, 24 Nov 2005 07:35:24 -0800
PackersNews.com reports Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman said he hasn't lost confidence in rookie RB Samkon Gado, but Sherman wouldn't say if Gado will be in the starting lineup Sunday, Nov. 27, at Philadelphia. Gado took over as the starter after RB ReShard Lee fumbled his first carry as the starting running back. Since replacing Lee, Gado has fumbled three times in three games. Sherman said the difference between Lee's fumble and Gado's fumbles is that while Lee's was recovered by the opposition, the Packers have recovered each of Gado's drops. If Gado doesn't start, RB Tony Fisher will. Fisher said he split time with Gado running with the first-team offense during Wednesday afternoon's practice, Nov. 23.

Gado didn't have a carry after his third-quarter fumble and finished with seven yards on 10 carries during the team's Week 11 game. Gado said he understands that and didn't need an explanation for why Fisher got the remainder of the work against the Minnesota Vikings.

Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf said the Green Bay Packers season, at 2-8, is over. "At some point when it's over, it's over," Wolf said. It struck Wolf as he was watching the Packers muster just two touchdowns against a Minnesota Vikings defense that ranked 25th in the NFL that this was not a team capable of winning many games with the offensive people it had on the field. Wolf said if current general manager Ted Thompson is still evaluating head coach Mike Sherman's performance he has to take into consideration that the Packers have been competitive. Wolf added the Packers running game was weak. "This is the big leagues. It's not Aunt Fannie's Taffy Pull. You have to play big-league players. They don't have a running back. Maybe that kid (RB Samkon Gado) had an off night, but those other two guys (RBs Tony Fisher and ReShard Lee) are NFL Europe players."

Sat, 19 Nov 2005 07:45:32 -0800
Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers RB Tony Fisher is healthy and eager to play again. Fisher made it clear he won't rock the boat if rookie RB Samkon Gado continues to receive the bulk of the carries. Fisher said it would not be wise for anyone to forget that he was the designated starter before Gado received his opportunity and that Fisher has been a regular contributor to the offense in the past. Fisher will be used primarily as a third-down back, his role before RBs Ahman Green and Najeh Davenport were hurt, and spell Gado from time to time.
