Mon, 22 May 2006 13:53:39 -0700

Packers | Barry's injury appears to be serious

Mon, 22 May 2006 05:24:55 -0700

Rob Demovsky, of PackersNews.com, reports the injury suffered by Green Bay Packers OL Kevin Barry (quad) appears to be serious. Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy called it a quad injury, which could include a ruptured quadriceps tendon. Barry fell to the ground at the end of the one-on-one pass blocking drill and clutched his left knee, which would indicate the injury is closer to the tendon than the muscle. "From what I understand, it's pretty serious," Packers OC Scott Wells said. The team's medical staff was evaluating Barry after practice. If he sustained a torn quadriceps tendon, he would miss the entire season. Barry came into 2006 with a legitimate chance to compete for one of the two starting guard positions.

Tue, 16 May 2006 08:30:39 -0700

Tom Silverstein, writing for the Sporting News, reports Green Bay Packers OG Kevin Barry had a legitimate shot of winning the right guard spot, but he might have blown it by showing up 25 pounds overweight. As a result of his weight problem, OL Junius Coston got the nod at right guard and did nothing to dissuade the coaches about his ability. Coston fits the new system perfectly because he's quick and agile and has lots of experience pulling. Barry will have to play catch-up the rest of the spring.

Let me say this: That's a good observation on your part. But right now we would like to have 'Tausch' at tackle."
