Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos S Marques Anderson was given a one-year contract extension upon his arrival with the team. The extension is a guarantee of a roster spot and a good start for Anderson in Denver. "Marques feels comfortable there and would like a little security," agent Peter Schaffer said. "It made sense."

Andrew Mason, of DenverBroncos.com, reports Denver Broncos SS Marques Anderson is happy he was claimed by the Broncos after he asked the Oakland Raiders for his release earlier in the week. "You know, it's almost a relief," Anderson said. "I'm ready to be a Denver Bronco (and) wear the orange and blue. We see the Raiders twice this year and that's one way that I can take a little frustration out."

Steve Corkran, writing for the Sporting News, reports Oakland Raiders S Derrick Gibson is healthy again, fully recovered from a shoulder injury, and ready to reclaim the starting job at strong safety. He'll compete with S Marques Anderson, but it appears the Raiders feel Gibson will win the job and then they will move Anderson to another position.

Raiders | Two to Battle at Strong Safety

Steve Corkran, reports for the Sporting News, the Oakland Raiders are expecting a two man race between safeties Derrick Gibson and Marques Anderson to see who becomes the team's starting strong safety. Gibson is returning from a shoulder injury that cost him the entire 2004 season. Anderson played under defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's scheme last season. Both are talented players who still haven't reached their potential. Gibson is a big hitter and fast. Anderson is also a big hitter. Both players struggle with pass coverage. It looks like this battle will go neck and neck until the end of training camp when one of them will emerge as the starter.

Updating previous reports, an MRI has revealed Green Bay Packers SS Antuan Edwards (hamstring) suffered a partially torn hamstring in Week 13 and may miss the remainder of the regular season. Edwards is definitely OUT for Sunday's, Dec. 7, game against the Chicago Bears. He will be re-evaluated after 10 to 14 days to see if the hamstring needs surgery. If he does not, there is a chance he will be back this season, possibly for the playoffs if the Packers make it. SS Marques Anderson, who has seen playing time this season in the dime defense, will start for Edwards against Chicago.

Green Bay Packers FS Darren Sharper (ribs) was held out of practice Tuesday, Nov. 25, after being refused clearance on his injured ribs by the team's medical staff. Sharper insisted that he is ready to return, but for now remains a game-time decision for Thursday's, Nov. 27, game against the Detroit Lions. If Sharper is unable to play in the game, SS Antuan Edwards will move to Sharper's free safety position, with SS Marques Anderson starting at strong safety.

Green Bay Packers CB Erwin Swiney has replaced S Marques Anderson in the dime package and performed pretty well. Anderson has played horribly of late and Swiney could replace him permanently. A lot will depend on how many four wide receiver sets the Packers face.
