The Associated Press reports Cleveland Browns LB Darren Hambrick answered an arrest warrant in Florida Monday and turned himself in to authorities on charges that he stole a check from the Carolina Panthers while he was with the team. He is accused of stealing a $5,682.51 check from the team in October 2001. He received a payroll check on November 11, but then asked the team to stop payment on it because he never received it. He was then issued another check, and cashed it along with the other check he already received, court records said. “It is our understanding that all moneys have been returned,” said Browns spokesman Todd Stewart. Hambrick posted bail on Monday, but no initial court appearance has been set. If convicted, he could face a fine, probation, or jail time.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports Cleveland Browns LB Darren Hambrick could move up the depth chart and eventually claim the starting strong-side LB job. Head coach Butch Davis said he is doing an excellent job so far, after being signed by the team last week. “Darren Hambrick played very good,” Davis said. “One thing is when the ball is snapped and the lights go on, the instincts take over. He found the ball a lot of times even if he didn’t know what he was supposed to do.”

Nick Eatman reports for the team's official site, the Dallas Cowboys saved nearly $7.5 million in roster bonuses by releasing CB Ryan McNeil and LB Joe Bowden earlier today. The team remains about $4.7 million over the cap. "We appreciated what Ryan and Joe have been able to contribute to the organization," Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said. Both could re-sign with the team at lower salaries. McNeil has said he would like to return to Dallas. If the Cowboys lose free agent LBs Dexter Coakley and Darren Hambrick, Bowden could be back.
