Updating a previous item, Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith said the team does not have any plans to sign an experienced running back, making it clear RB Matt Forte is being counted on as the starter opening day. "We like the running backs we have right now," Smith said. "We don't have any plans to (sign one). From Matt to Adrian N. Peterson to Garrett Wolfe to P.J. Pope, Matt Lawrence, we like all of our players, and those are the ones that we're going with."

Peterson has been replacing RB Cedric Benson in passing situations due to Peterson's experience in pass blocking and pass protections. Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said, "Cedric is to the point now where he can do that. He's much more comfortable doing that and we can keep him in there. But A.P. is a very smart player protection-wise and very experienced. He's seen a lot of things in that type of situation, so we've had him in there. But we could very easily go with Cedric. He's to the point now where he can handle that."
