The Star-Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings FS Orlando Thomas (death in family) was back at practice Friday and he worked with the first team. Rookie CB Eric Kelly took many snaps with the first team at left cornerback, despite the return to practice of Dale Carter (hamstring). FB Jim Kleinsasser (ankle) did not practice again Friday and he is expected to be OUT Monday. Harold Morrow is expected to return kicks and Nate Jacquet could return punts. LB Lemanski Hall (shoulder) was back practicing with the first team at strongside linebacker after playing exclusively on special teams last week. WR Cris Carter (rib) said Thursday that the injury would make it difficult for him to play and he was of the same mindset Friday.

The Pioneer Press reports Minnesota Vikings DT Chris Hovan (ankle) was able to practice yesterday. LB Ed McDaniel (ankle) also practiced, but he was a little limited. MLB Kailee Wong (knee) practiced and he should be good to go Sunday. WR/return specialist Nate Jacquet (quad) was able to practice yesterday and should be able to play Sunday. OL Calvin Collins (calf) took a limited number of reps in yesterday's practice.

Updating an earlier story, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings Nate Jacquet is back and set to return kickoffs and punts Sunday against Tampa Bay. Troy Walters (knee) is expected to miss the contest to get extra rest and treatment for his bothersome knee.

Vikings.com reports the Minnesota Vikings have released LB Antonio Wilson. They re-signed WR/KR Nate Jacquet. He had been released earlier by the team. Coach Dennis Green indicated Jacquet was re-signed because the team's primary return man, Troy Walters, is struggling with a bothersome knee. Green is undecided on which player will play this week. Green also indicated the team may re-sign Wilson to the practice squad.

Yesterday we reported the Washington Redskins were going to workout several candidates for their punt returner position. Today, the Washington Post reports the workouts were given to free agents Eric Metcalf and Nate Jacquet. The team did not sign either player.

The Pioneer Press reports WR Troy Walters took over as return man for the Minnesota Vikings in place of the inactive Nate Jacquet. Special teams coach Gary Zauner said don't read too much into the decision to play Walters and put Jacquet on the inactive list. "That's the way it comes out," Zauner said. "He helps the offense more. We're not getting down to who's better. It's who helps the team, and for this game Troy was up."

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings KR/WR Nate Jacquet was fined $5,000 by the NFL this week for taunting an opponent. He threw a football at Carolina's Karl Hankton in the team's opening game. Jacquet was upset at being penalized when it occurred, and wasn't pleased about the fine. He said he will appeal.

The Pioneer Press reports barring any complications with his groin injury, WR Nate Jacquet will be returning kicks and punts Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings open the regular season against Carolina. "Right now I would imagine Nate is going to be returning, unless the coach suddenly changes it," Gary Zauner said. "He's shown us that he can make plays, and he's going to get an opportunity to do it. He still isn't a great kickoff-return guy, but he really hasn't done it that much. So we're going to have to be a little more patient, or we might try some other guys at kickoff returns."

Coach Dennis Green said if Badger's prognosis worsened, Everett Lindsay would start. LB Isaac Keys will undergo surgery on his shoulder today. He is on the IR list.

The Star-Tribune reports Minnesota Vikings LT Brad Badger sprained his right knee toward the end of Wednesday's practice. He was removed as a precautionary measure. Trainer Chuck Barta said he will re-evaluate the knee this morning. CB Robert Tate practiced Wednesday with a brace on his right shoulder and he is probable for Sunday. LB Patrick Chukwurah was limited in practice due to an upper respiratory illness. WR/KR Nate Jacquet pulled a groin muscle. Jacquet looked like he had won the kick returner job, but his injury may change that.

Mike Wells reports for the Pioneer Press Minnesota Vikings special teams coach Gary Zauner is having a tough time picking his starting return men. The candidates are Troy Walters, WR Nate Jacquet and several rookies. The battle to handle punt returns appears to be between Walters and Jacquet although Don Morgan could still be in the mix. Walters, Jacquet and rookie Cedric James have handled most of the kickoffs in the preseason. Those three also are competing for the fifth receiver spot.

The AP reports the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Colts 28-21 Friday night. QB Daunte Culpepper threw touchdowns of 74 and 54 yards to WR Randy Moss as the Vikings moved to 3-0 in the pre-season. Vikings WR Nate Jacquet returned a punt 76 yards for a TD. Moss has seven receptions for 265 yards and four scores in the pre-season. Colts QB Peyton Manning was 18-of-30 for 208 yards with two interceptions and a TD pass to WR Jerome Pathon in a full half of play. RB Edgerrin James rushed 11 times for 44 yards and had three receptions for 12 yards. WR Marvin Harrison caught three passes for 58 yards. Vikings rookie RB Michael Bennett had 33 yards on six carries, including a 15-yard TD run. Culpepper was 9-of-15 for 172 yards, the two TDs and no interceptions. Colts No. 2 QB Mark Rypien was 17-of-22 for 183 yards and a TD.

Bill Williamson reports for the Pioneer Press the Minnesota Vikings have re-signed WR/KR Nate Jacquet. He agreed to terms Monday on what is expected to be a minimum salary contact. Coach Dennis Green and his staff are on vacation this week. The team said they have no interest in free agent RB Greg Hill. He had contacted them to judge their interest. TE Johnny is talking with the Oakland Raiders, in addition to the previously reported New England Patriots. The Vikings are expected to resume negotiations with agent Joe Linta on a long-term contract for C Matt Birk. Vikings sources maintain the team wants to sign Birk to a long-term deal before the season. Linta reiterated Monday that re-signing Birk will not come cheaply. Agent Steve Baker, who represents Vikings restricted free agent LB Kailee Wong, said Wong could sign his tender in the near future.
