Panthers | Police & Courts: Bright Files Suit

Thu, 27 May 2004 08:08:00 -0700

Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports former Carolina Panthers WR Anthony Bright has sued the Panthers and WR Steve Smith, claiming a 2002 fight with Smith ruined his career in the NFL. The civil lawsuit claims Smith's actions and the team's negligence prevented him from finding another job and he's seeking damages in excess of $10,000 in actual damages as well as punitive damages from Smith. Bright needed surgery and was hospitalized after being struck in the face by Smith during a film session Nov. 18, 2002. His attorney, Guy Crabtree, is claiming the injuries have prevented him from being the same player he was before the incident. He's been playing for Orlando in the Arena Football League.
