Thu, 27 May 2004 08:08:00 -0700 Pat Yasinskas, of the Charlotte Observer, reports former Carolina Panthers WR Anthony Bright has sued the Panthers and WR Steve Smith, claiming a 2002 fight with Smith ruined his career in the NFL. The civil lawsuit claims Smith's actions and the team's negligence prevented him from finding another job and he's seeking damages in excess of $10,000 in actual damages as well as punitive damages from Smith. Bright needed surgery and was hospitalized after being struck in the face by Smith during a film session Nov. 18, 2002. His attorney, Guy Crabtree, is claiming the injuries have prevented him from being the same player he was before the incident. He's been playing for Orlando in the Arena Football League.

Tue, 07 Jan 2003 19:57:18 -0800 AtlantaFalcons.com reports that the Atlanta Falcons have signed CB Anthony Bright to the five-man practice squad. Bright replaces WR Jimmy Farris, who was promoted to the 53-man roster earlier.

As previously noted, Bright received a broken nose by a pair of punches from fellow WR Steve Smith after Bright asked the coaches to rewind and replay a particular play Smith got wrong in last week's loss.
Fri, 22 Nov 2002 23:17:00 -0800 Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith was jailed and charged with misdemeanor assault on Friday following an alleged attack on a teammate earlier this week. WR Anthony Bright, who spent two nights in the hospital this week because of the incident, filed a report with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police when he was released from the hospital. Smith faces a maximum sentence of 120 days imprisonment. He was released Friday evening after posting $2,000 bond.

Wed, 20 Nov 2002 14:41:08 -0800 Updating an earlier story, the Associated Press reports Carolina Panthers WR Anthony Bright broke his nose in the altercation he had with teammate, WR Steve Smith. WR Isaac Byrd visited Bright in the hospital and he said Bright's injuries were "very disturbing." "I wanted to leave the room the second I walked in there," Byrd said. "When I saw him his face was covered, it was like a sheet below the eyes. The nose was covered. Half the face was swollen and his left eye was closed, you'd have thought there was a bulldozer in Steve's fist." Byrd said Smith called Bright's hospital room while he was there. As noted, the team suspended Smith this week.
Wed, 20 Nov 2002 11:07:21 -0800 The AP reports Carolina Panthers WR Steve Smith has been suspended for one game by the team. Smith had an altercation with teammate, WR Anthony Bright. Smith will miss Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
