Darin Gantt, of the Rock Hill Herald, reports Carolina Panthers DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu (Achilles') will undergo surgery Wednesday, Aug. 5, to repair a torn Achilles' tendon. He is not ruling out a possible December or January return.

Charles Chandler, of the Charlotte Observer, reports Carolina Panthers DT Ma'ake Kemoeatu (Achilles') suffered a torn Achilles' tendon in practice Monday, Aug. 3. A team spokesman did not know what Kemoeatu's status was for the season. He will likely miss at least a good portion of the regular season, which may force the team to sign a veteran replacement.

Kemoeatu will now make base salaries of $2 million (2009), $750,000 (2010), $1.485 million (2011), $2.115 million (2012), $2.745 million (2013) and $3.375 million (2014).
