Giants | Safeties will not apologize to Shockey |
Tue, 01 Aug 2006 21:49:42 -0700
The Associated Press reports New York Giants FS Will Demps and SS Gibril Wilson will not apologize to TE Jeremy Shockey (concussion) after giving him a mild concussion during practice Monday, July 31. Demps downplayed the collision, saying both he and Shockey were going for the ball when Demps' elbow hit Shockey's facemask and knocked him hard to the ground. Demps said he tried to ask Shockey how he was immediately after the play was over, but Shockey seemed to ignore him. When the evening practice ended two plays later, Shockey threw his helmet in disgust. Demps feels there is no need to apologize and said, "We were both going for a play. It is what it is. It's a mild concussion. It's football." Wilson said Shockey might be a little miffed because the defensive backs did a good job of keeping the ball away from him during both practices Monday. Wilson added, "Will made a great play and Shockey didn't appreciate it. He did not like it at all. But it is what it is."

I've seen a lot of success there in my four years and I think for me I can bring some of that here and just feed off of each other."

Giants | Demps out to prove himself |
Sat, 29 Jul 2006 00:48:20 -0700
Ed Weaver, of the Journal Register, reports New York Giants S Will Demps is out to prove himself in 2006. Demps leaves one of the NFL's top defenses in Baltimore but if he and the other newcomers can deliver what the Giants need, Demps could wind up in the Super Bowl. "I'm very excited," he said. "It's a great chance for me to be a part of an improving defense with a lot of potential." Demps started 43 straight games for the Ravens but missed five games after tearing his ACL in 2005. Demps is a ball-hawking safety who breaks up passes and makes tackles with equal effectiveness. He had 86 tackles in 2004. Demps would rather be playing the Ravens during the regular season but he's definitely looking forward to battling them in Baltimore in the preseason opener Friday, Aug. 11.

Giants | Lewis needs to find a way to get everyone on the field |
Sat, 17 Jun 2006 06:15:53 -0700
Paul Schwartz, of the New York Post, reports the New York Giants have a lot of talent on the defense and it is defensive coordinator Tim Lewis' job to find a way to get all his key players playing time. The signing of LB LaVar Arrington as a big-play linebacker, the additions of CB Sam Madison and S Will Demps in the backfield, and the drafting of sack-minded DE Mathias Kiwanuka has Lewis scheming away. Adding that talent to DE Michael Strahan, DE Osi Umenyiora and LB Antonio Pierce gives the Giants an abundance of players capable of getting to the quarterback. "I'm looking forward to the challenge, trying to find out how they all fit, trying to put it all together," Lewis said Friday, June 16. The challenge for Lewis is to find a way to get them all on the field at the same time. Figure it will happen, and not by accident. "I doubt he'll be inactive any games," Lewis said of Kiwanuka, who owns Boston College's career sack record.
