Thomas started the Saturday, Aug. 16 pre-season game against the Atlanta Falcons and made the tackle that broke a bone in the leg of Falcons QB Michael Vick, an injury that will sideline him at least six weeks.

Updating previous reports, Jamison Hensley, of the Baltimore Sun, reports Baltimore Ravens LB Terrell Suggs (neck) sat out his second straight practice Thursday, August 14 with a neck injury. Ravens head coach Brian Billick said Suggs likely will play in the Saturday, August 16 pre-season game against the Atlanta Falcons. Before the missed practices, Suggs had been working with the starters, filling in for LB Cornell Brown (hamstring).

Beasley, of BaltimoreRavens.com, reports Baltimore Ravens LB Cornell Brown has received increases practice reps and has joined the first team defense in camp as unsigned first-round OLB Terrell Suggs continues to holdout. Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan hinted that the door is open for Brown to start. "If [Suggs] is not up to par, we're playing to win, and we're going to play the best 11," said Nolan. "Just because you're the most talented, if you can't play with the other 10 and be part of the best team, you're not part of the best 11."

"Cornell has expressed to me a great interest in the Jaguars due to his relationship with Del Rio and the other [former Baltimore coaches with the Jaguars]," Segal said.

Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Oakland Raiders have reached a contract agreement with former Baltimore Ravens LB Cornell Brown. He sat out the 2001 season after he was released by the Ravens last Sept 5. Details of the contract were not immediately available. Brown is not unlike several players who sat out a year, or were released late in a season, yet resumed their careers with the Raiders and were productive. The Raiders earlier signed three players fitting that MO, CBs Antonio Banks and Fakhir Brown and DE Jon Harris.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Baltimore Ravens worked out seven linebackers on Thursday in an effort to replace the released Cornell Brown. The most notable names: Eddie Mason, a surprise cut by the Redskins; Ryan Phillips, cut by the Raiders; Jeff Posey, let go by Eagles; and Dwayne Gordon, who was cut by the Jets. The Ravens apparently won't sign any of these players until Monday at the earliest when they will not be locked into their salary for the whole year.

The Washington Post reports the Baltimore Ravens re-signed LB Tim Johnson after releasing LB Cornell Brown earlier today. Johnson was among the team's final cuts. Johnson might not last beyond Sunday's season opener against the Chicago Bears, coach Brian Billick said. He added the team prefered more of a veteran presence at the position. Among those under consideration is O.J. Brigance, a standout on the Ravens special teams last season as a reserve linebacker. The coach adde the team may prefer someone that can actually add value at LB.

The AP reports the Baltimore Ravens have released LB Cornell Brown. His release comes one day after he was arrested for marijuana possession. Brown has been charged with one count each of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance Tuesday night after a bail hearing.
