Mon, 03 Sep 2001 08:07:34 -0700

The Democrat and Chronicle reports Raion Hill is now expected to take over at strong safety for the released Henry Jones. Hill has played well in the pre-season, and his hard-hitting tackling style clearly impressed coach Gregg Williams. In the team's new defensive system, defensive backs are going to be left alone often to make plays and Jones missed a tackle in the pre-season against Cincinnati which allowed RB Brandon Bennett to score a TD on a 76-yard run. "We've got a certain style of defense that we are trying to implement here and it requires a strong safety to play a little differently than maybe the previous defense required the strong safety to play," said GM Tom Donahoe.
